I found this at a modern day garage but it was a blacksmith shop in the 1800s. This has been a place of business for this family for well over a hundred years.Its about three inches long and appears to be made of brass. When I showed it to the owner he did a nono and took an electric wire wheel to it. I thought maybe an old hood ornament.
