Last night I went out for about an hour before dark to an old country church I an many others have hit hard.It was bone dry and the ground was packed hard along one edge where a farmer drives through to his field and I hunted there as the grass was dead and beat down. What a suprise ,I found a 1920 Mercury at a full 8" depth measured with a tape measure and on edge.I then found a 1911 and 1919 penny at over 8".
About 30 minutes into the hunt I got another high silver signal at max depth on the indicator and chiseled down about 6" and put my Sunray probe in the hole and it said silver so I carefully chissled some more and it really screamed silver so I got excited as it sounded bigger than a dime.Got it pinpointed exact and chipped dirt around it and at 9" I saw a silver rim and poped it out.It was worn quite a bit but was easy to read,1877S Quarter.Looked a few more minutes and got a Indian signal and at 6" poped out a 1893 Indian in nice shape.
I have hunted this exact spot with F75 and Ex II when the ground was very wet and nothing. It opened my eyes to dry ground hunting if I can just locate some ereas where I won't have to worry about grass damage I will Explore further Pun intended. The Sunray Probe sure works good in dry hard soil conditions.I have found if you hunt in auto sens. the probe does not get near the depth as in manual sens. set at the upper limits,Ray.
Sorry about the poor pictures but only 420KB realy sucks!
