I was planning on calling my metal detecting season from March to November. I think instead I'll call it from April 1 to December 1. All other hunts will be bonuses. Why you ask? Well it looked like a lovely day so I went out. Got my first good signal and bent my shovel in the frost. Most of my day was spent looking for ground I could dig in. Makes me admire John in Edmonton even more. Picking were slim but I'll take it. 28 coins for $3.82. A really old flat button and some other junk. The faux pearl came out of a hole where I lost the metal target. I bet it was a clasp or and earring. I looked for a long, long time and finally gave up. I didn't dig any signals below penny because it was just so hard to recover things and my hands were freezing cold.

PS my day got a lot worse when I went to the Post Office and had to deal with the most officious, discourteous, obnoxious, and just plain ignorant postal clerk I have ever had to deal with. After standing in line for 20 minutes she proceeded to explain to me why she wasn't going to help me with either of the two pieces of business I was there to conduct. One was to cash a $204.50 money order which she said she did not have sufficient cash in her drawer. The woman in front of me had just purchased a money order and paid with two one hundred dollar bills. The other was to pick up a registered letter that she just couldn't seem to find. I turned to the angry people in line and apologized for the delay and explained the simple tasks I had asked her to do and the incompetence which greeted me. She got her supervisor. I told him what a moron he had at his window. I got my money but not my letter and was told I could return at 4pm. The window next to me was occupied by a guy sending about 20 packages overseas and the clerk, rather than moving him to the side to fill out all the customs forms and assist some other customers, stood there and watched the guy filling out the forms. I was in the post office for at least 30 minutes and in that entire time they had prepared 5 of 20 of the packages for shipment. The other windows never opened although the two other clerks who normally help me were flitting in and out of the lobby looking busy. Just plain awful.
