Boost Mode on T2

cx3

New member
I was reading on the forum a couple of nights back and read a post from one of the english detectorist who mentioned the boost mode on the T2, he stated that if you reduced discrimination below 5 or increased discrimination above 50 the T2 went in a boost mode. When I read the owners manual I dont recall seeing any information on boost, so this afternoon I tried reducing the discrimination below 5 and also increasing discrimination above 50 and yes, the depth increased noticably the detector also became quite unstable, lots of chatter. But it did improve depth, I have a dime buried in my test garden that the T2 has problems detecting but when I adjusted the discrimination as mentioned above the T2 had no problem detecting the dime. The only problem is the chatter I tried reducing sensitivity changing frequencies and changing the tones and nothing quieted the T2. HH

I'm no expert by anymeans , but I'm pretty sure it's just a sacrifice that you have to make ~ More depth = More chatter. Some people suggest running at a lower volume and paying more attention to the numbers. I'm not sure how well that will work though because I also heard people also say that on real deep signals the numbers are not reliable or may not even show up at all. I find the chatter annoying to , but if I'm in an area thta has old coins I just deal with it. Good luck ~ CoinShooter-Craig

Bill Ladd runs the T2 a good bit. Go to the Fisher F series forum and post a message for Bill .

Lots of chatter, but I really think it makes a difference. I lended my old ACE 250 to my friend and he was actually kicking my butt with it in a trashy park. I switched my disc. from 21 down to 2 and really started finding stuff. Only problem is that chatter will give you a headache.

In the BOOST mode with the chatter do you see a visual ID or do you listen to a strong tone within the chatter or both?

I get alot of PM's asking about this gain boost.......(maybe we'll even pin this to the top later for awhile).

Yes, the answer is to get that added power you also get added chatter (you can hear it good on this movie). It sounds alot like RF chatter but, yes, that IS the trade off. But it goes deeper than all metal in my testing, so to me it's worth it. Some call it too much "fatigue" on the ears, but believe it or not I have actually gotten usted to it now. I consider it like running with a threshold tone....It's bringing me lots of new finds from Colonial sites we considered "hunted out".........

I run mine usually 0 or 1 disc with 90's sensitivity & 1 tone. I try to turn the headphone vol. down, or even pop out the headphones completely if I'm deep in the woods or something to avoid a headache:wacko:. Keep in mind that like running all metal, you are always watching the LCD numbers. I see tons of iron hits in the 20-s-30's & just keep going till I see a higher conductivity # flash. Then I stop, sweep over it in several directions to make sure it's in my eye's "diggable".....

On the 1772 coin in this video, I saw a 70 from 1 direction..then 50's & 60 flashes. This was right in an area several units went over that day & previously, & it always just sounded like an iron blip until the T2 disc "boost" put it into range of a correct ID now deemed "diggable" Running this way isn't ideal for everyone. Just great to use in "hunted out" sites, or deep relic hunting etc....not needed for casual coinshooting or whatever.

Bill,

I'm starting to use your method and I do get iron bits poping everywhere. At what number would you dig? I'm noticing colonial and civil war relics coming in low ranges? Would the 40's and above seem reasonable until you figure it is trash or relic? I always liked the mind to high 70's and above but now wishing I had dug the lower numbers. Well, I guess the relics are not going anywhere and I can go back to them :)

Thanks for all your GREAT info. Going out to Colonial site tomorrow. Hope to post pics or video.

Bill,

You are the MAN! I hunted the old Colonial/Civil War site where I have been before. I used sens 99, disc 0 and 2tones. I pulled 10 flat buttons in 3 hours. I don't where ear phones so the noise isnt that bad. Only when you lay down the T2 to probe the hole and it sounds like skeeters all around you. My buddy went down the corn rows to hunt the plowed area as his detector cant go but 4 inches. I stayed in the grass and was dig'n Flats all day at 8-9 inches. AMAZING! Cant wait to go back next weekend. Hopefully find some buttons or coins with something on them. (all my finds where in the high foil or zinc range)

Thanks again for the post.

Beau

You'll see most of the flat buttons in the 50's.........
coppers/coins 70-80's
Glad to hear you had some success with it! :clapping:

The JE mode on the F75 does the same thing as far as boost and chatter but I found that it helped a LOT to keep the coil on the ground and moving. The 75 would chatter like crazy in JE until I lowered the coil and started swinging... it would still chatter some but not nearly as much. It might be the same with the T2 and it's boost chatter.

Boost mode strikes again! Found a 1915 penny 9 inches down, 1903 Indian Head 8 inches and a 1871 Liberty Head penny 10 inches. DEADLY!!
