Bored at work.

I was detecting a sandy beach a few years ago near Vancouver, BC. I had an Xterra 70 at the time. I was doing well, finding lots of clad, bear cans and other beach do dads. I made my way to a secluded area of the beach, behind a break water when I got a fairly good signal. I had my Jackson Gigger and a shovel that i had found. I dug down about 3 to 3.5 feet and hit metal. I began digging away the sand, tapping the metal and learning that it was hollow. My heart jumped somewhat seeing an old clasp on the end that had rotted away and gold strips running along the top of what I was sure, must be a chest. After a good two hours of digging, I had uncovered an oldf iron and wood chest approximnately 4 feet wide and 3 feet deep. It was too heavy to move. I notoced 3 places where locks had been, but have long since rotted off. The wood was brittle from the salt water. My thoughts at the time were two. That the chest had been buried here for a reason and secondly, that it surely contained currency or gold. I pryed the large lid up and behold...........I will let you guess what I found):yikes:

I'll post pictures when I get home and let you guys all surmise what was in there!

n/t

I think I'll start a post and see how many bored people there are on any given day at work:ranting:

Always bored at work but, unfortunately, I cannot access the find's forums because this website is setup as "entertainment" so it's blocked. :throw:

Honestly I thought you were kidding with that story lol. Thats awesome. Must have been excited but im guessing if it was full of gold you wouldnt be telling us about it so Ill say clothes....

Wow, I am 100% positive I never would have dug that up. Too big! Can't wait to see what was in there.

The only thing that kept me going was the hollow sound as my digger hit it! I was prepared to call the Local News Channels.........tomorrow, I'll disclose the contents)

One final thought before signing off. I can tell you that I was not prepared for what was within this chest...

man, hopefully it wasn't man's best friend who happend to love running and playing on this beach. I had a much smaller version of that via a folgers can the other week, not fun.

No mans best friend in the chest. We all know that we should pack out what we find, in this case, I made an exception. The weight of the chest was approximately 150lbs, excluding its contents.
So, as I lifted the lid, with my mind full of hopes and dreams, with the sun beaming down, my mouth parched from lack of fluids, I yanked it open with gusto. To my dismay, the dieing light of that fall day, revealed a moldy, grey blanket, a quarter bottle of some unknown brand of vodka, a bottle of bleach and a stainless steel washing pan! No diamonds, rubies or emeralds. No gold or other currency hastly buried away!
This wasn't a total right off for me. The odds of finding such a chest were very slim. I was thrilled to find such a gem! Too bad it didn;t have anything of value in it. I guess now, I have my memories!

Great story! You certainly kept me in suspense!! It sounded like the chest was quite old...how old would you say the contents were?? Any speculation as to its origin or contents???

Thanks for the story!!

If I were to guess, I would say that it had been in the ground since the 60 or early 70's. Just speculation though. The salt water took a number on it! How it got there? That is a huge mystery! Was it boated in then left? Did some beach goers pack it down and then left it??? So many questions!

Sounds like crime scene evidence to me. You could be on the next episode of cold case files. Sorry it wasn't filled with booty.
