Bottlecaps identification and ground balance

Hello everyone,

I discovered that the bottlecap trick (identification of b.c. using the heel or the toe of the DD coil) don't work when the ground balance is under about 25.

So I cannot recognise bottlecaps when hunting on the beach, where it should be more useful.

Some other trick?

Thank you!

Sorry, this is referred to Gamma 6000 with 11" DD Teknetics original coil (or 12" SEF coil)....

The only other method for bottlecaps and DD coils that I know of, is to lower the GB (ground balance) 20 points below what the machine balances at. This results in a significant loss of depth. Plus you are already ground balanced at 25 or less. May or may not useful in your circumstances. I would recommend the Tecknetics 10" elliptical concentric coil. It has 1-2" less depth than the 11" DD coil, but will do a far better job on discriminating bottlecaps.
I recommend the elliptical concentric over your stock round concentric because the elliptical shape can see through trash a little bit better due to its elongated shape instead of round like on the stock coil..

and how can I discriminate bottlecaps using the elliptical concentric coil ? they sounds ferrous? clipped sound?

Try slowly lifting your coil as you swing over the target. I found that the ID for bottlecaps would quickly fall to lower numbers when you do this. On coins it will stay pretty true to the TID number. Bottlecaps the ID should start dropping as you lift you coil higher as you swing. It may start at 90 and then drop into the 70's or lower as you lift your coil and swing.....
