Bought myself an Xterra 705

HI,
Bought myself an Xterra 705 to complement my Vaquero. It has been so hot and humid here (NC) that I have had little time to use it. I have been reading Randy Horton's Book on understanding the Xterra, and I know I have a lot to learn. I always wanted a deep, TID machine, and I hope this will meet my needs. I hunt jewelry, coins, and relics in central NC. I'm retired, a former scientist, and 66 years old by way of an introduction. I will be spending more time on this forum from now on to pick up pointers, etc.

:clapping: Welcome aboard!
And congratulations on your acquisition of the most versatile detector on the market. :beers:

I think you will be happy with your 705, it's a great machine. I have found several gold rings with mine and in a range from 10, 16,18,20 and 24.
The 18's are usually a pull tab but can usually determine it by pulling the coil toward you and the sound will start to crack up.

The two gold rings that came in at 20 and 24 were both about 2" deep were so solid sounding in all directions and would not break up all the way until the coil was clezed ar of the target.

Nickels are clear at 10-14 and almost always the same. If you have a high mineralized soil you may have to go to the 10x5 DD coil, i had to in my area and it made all the difference. Love it!!

Welcome. If you relic hunt I like to use two tone all metal tracking on sensitivity as high as I can get it. I relic hunt a lot with mine.

I know you will love the 705 it is a coin magnet I had several whites machines but grab the 705 when I want to find something.

Used Tesoros for 29 years, bought a Vaquero a couple of years ago. Very deep machine but I got real tired of digging down 9 inches for an old nail. I just couldn't seem to tell what was trash from treasure. I do waaay better with the 705.
Hope you like using yours!

That was my feeling--I was digging too much junk and was not getting lead at 9" in the soil here. So I am hoping I will be more productive with the Xterra.

You will love it , took me awhile to learn, but now I see what it can do. Have fun and read the forums you will learn fast.

Good Luck

thanks for the comments. I am starting to learn the Xterra 705, but I haven't been able to understand what the ID 46 represents. It doesn't really seem to be high conductivity, and appears with large iron at times. Been mainly coin hunting and am starting to learn the numbers for each type of US coin (haven't found silver or gold yet!).. Nickel seemed to be a solid 12 but then I found a ball of aluminium foil that gave a solid 12. Have been using high sensitivity, stability turned on, and 4 tones. I usual use the preset program #2.
Thanks for any advice,
Andy in Hillsborough

Now that's a nice find:clapping:.....TID??? was it a 30?...Was that a ball field find? Looks like it's packed with orange clay.
Even in program 2 I doubt you would have missed that one, smaller bands maybe, but not a honker like that. Good luck on the return.

 Great find! Good to see that you're taking to the new machine too!

Won't be any time at all before we convert you to running All Metal and 99 Tones. :detecting:

Now that hot . nice chunk of gold metal

That is one nice find. I have only found one class ring. I returned it and the man was so happy he started crying. Almost got me to crying.

Found the owner thru the Alumni association and the internet.
Will return it in a few weeks after my club meeting.

Andy

Cool! :clapping: Be sure to get pics of the return!
