Bought new Excal II , Need tips

Hi all,
I just bought a new Excal II , and was wondering if any of you guys or gals have any special settings or tips and tricks you would share. I do know that in all metal this puppy goes very deep. Hope to hear from ya. Thanks much, Gene from Southern California.

Run in all metal (pinpoint) , sensitivity at 12:00, threshold at just barely audible or just null and listen for that faint breakthrough. Switch over to discriminate to check signal . Discrim. set at 1-2. Volume just under maximum. The more targets you dig, the better you will get at recognizing the different i.d. tones. If you get a faint signal in all metal, and you get no signal in discriminate, it`s best to dig the target, as it`s too deep for the discrim. circuit to read. One man`s opinion. Well scottos got great info !
Now with that said, I do agree on pinpoint mode or all metal mode but that's exactly what that mode means all metal !!
So you will dig allot of junk untill you learn the tones !!
I'm still not sure about hearing a tone and going to disc mode and it mulls out being anything good, IMO I've wasted time doing this but I'm still trying it !

Keep sand out of skid plate or it will go nuts and make sure you put a sealent around battery plug so water doesn't get inside !!
I went to a pool supply place and got a tube of tube lube, my hunting buddy turned me on to this stuff it does help allot to keep water out of plug !

scotto hit it dead on...if you get no signal when you switch to disc from pinpoint, take a scoop out (don't need to keep looking for the target) and try the disc again - if it nulls out keep walking.....

My thanks to scott and all you other fellow detectorist. I have used this machine twice now and really love it, Today I hit a quarter at over a foot. Rechecked the hole and hit a dime at that depth. so I think I'm getting use to this hot machine. Thanks again for everyones help. Gene from Southern California

I for one since using all metal(pinpoint mode) will not go back to disc only, it may take a good few targets before you find one that doesn't register in disc, but once you see it with your own eyes you will be hooked on this way of hunting, often when it starts to register in disc it will be iron, no big deal, but sooner or later you will hit the jackpot others have passed oven not knowing was there.
