Went to a old ball field yesterday.Hunted around the old bleechers & parking area. Its really trashy, so I put on my 4.5X7 coil, since I'm still waiting for my 8x6 SEF. Just crept along slow and things started to happen Was'nt 15 ft. from truck and a nickel signal . Out popped the War nickel Then found the wheats. Found the rosie behind consession stand. Decided to take a pass out around the infield. I found a nice barber dime there last year, found the injun behind 2nd base & the merc over by 3rd. First injun I've found there

That's a nice hunt, Stubbs!!

Speaking of war nickels.....a lot of the war nickels I have found actually sounded like a wheat penny. Also, a lot of them have a black, tar-like substance that mostly will chip off with a little effort. The tar is probably the reaction of the maganese in them and the soil. I've found very few that sounded like actual nickels...mainly because I mostly ignore low tones in aluminum filled parks.

Thanks Captain SE . It sounded like a nickel to me. And the cusor was in the right area. It cleaned up easy with a little soap & water. The ground there is pretty sandy I think that helped
