Brand new Explorer ii in box

Thinking of buying Explorer ii that's still in box for $900. Main question is are they OK for prospecting along with coin shooting, or would the 705 mine lab be the better choice?

If you intend to prospect with the explorers.... dont waste your money. Sorry but they just are affective gold machines. Id suggest a used Gold Bug for prospecting. Some of the others like the F75 and MXT will hit the smaller gold. The best way to test one is to get a gold sample from one of the on line detector stores. Its a small cardboard square with a tiny piece of gold to test your settings. Ive used them out west and the explorers will NOT pick them up. You have to have one because you will realize gold hits and sounds differently. Its something you normally might just walk over as mineral sounds. Its a matter of using the right tool for the job.

Not to knock the wind out of your sails, but $900 seems a bit high (even though it's new), as long as you buy a well kept machine, used is fine and you can get one for a fraction of that amount.
And I must agree with some of the others, the Explorer is not the best machine for gold, I'd go with the MXT so you have versatility.

Good luck on your decision

$900 seems a little steep. I just bought a new SE Pro for $950 w/shipping included, sold the phones and rechargable battery and reduced the cost even more. As far as hunting for gold with the Explorer - I asked the same question and learned my F75 was a better choice. Anyway, good luck and HH.

$900 for a Explorer 2 is going to be really cheap, now that Minelabs manufacturing plant has moved to ( Penang, Maylaysia) the quality of their new detectors, i dont believe will be worth a darn. but only time will tell, so hang on to your older machines because they may be worth a fortune
