"God...WHY???"

"God...WHY do I have to be in so much pain???"
That was Brian's cry of despair Saturday evening. He held an icepack to his left jaw hoping to alleviate that pain, but he said his whole face hurt up into his forehead.
I had given him all the pain meds I could, including an additional dose authorized by our homehealth nurse. There just wasn't anything else I could do other than just hold him and pray that God would provide some relief.
I think last night was a little better. Carol sat with him so that I could catch up on my sleep so I hit the sack at around 8 and slept until about 12 ( I think). Carol then went to bed and I joined Brian and tried to sleep in the recliner in his room. But, he was restless and the sleep didn't come in long enough periods.
I'm very tired and I know Carol must be too because she got a lot less sleep last night than usual.
Brian woke up when Carol gave him his meds this morning and was still awake when she left for work. The phone rang and it was Carol and she told me that there was a box for Brian on the doorstep this morning and she had put it in the hallway.
He smiled as he opened the box, a big beautiful smile...it was from his good friend Stephanie. Inside was a stuffed dog and a really cool Lost calendar. I uploaded a photo.
Brian is sleeping peacefully now, with a smile on his face. Thank you Stephanie!
