Brian's Battle - Couple of Posts Update.........

A little improvement.

We haven't slept much since Brian fractured his left femur but last night was a little better. I think I got about 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep during one stretch.

This morning Brian was excited because he could raise his knee off of the pillow a couple of inches without the aid of his hands. It made me hurt to watch and I asked him to quit because I feared he would cause it to hurt again. He needs to lay as still as possible for a week or so for the healing to start.

Now for the bad news. We have three vehicles of which two are broken down. I think one is an alternator and the other is the ignition switch. I think I'll tackle the ignition switch first since it is the car Carol drives to work. One question though.

Does anyone know what size crowbar I need to remove the steering column cover?

Thank you very much for all of your thoughts and prayers!!

Doug

A little bleeding...
Posted Apr 11, 2011 11:20pm

...this evening. Brian started suctioning his trach and then clapped for me to get in there and the suction tube was full of blood. He said he was upset and crying because he was startled by thunder and jumped and hurt his leg again. Then he yawned and he said he felt something weird in the back of his throat like blood and that is when he had to suction. He also spit a small amount out of his mouth.

Hopefully this is just a freak thing and the bleeding will subside soon. Looks like we could have another sleepless night.

I opened his blind so that he can watch for lightning and be prepared for the thunder next time.

His pain has been worse today and again I wonder if it has something to do with the approaching cold front. Our nurse increased the dose of one of his meds and maybe that will help.

Thank you,
