Brian's Battle - new update 10-11-09 - A sweet, sweet sound!

A sweet, sweet sound!

Posted 7 hours ago

Friday night was rough!

Brian tried to talk to me Friday afternoon. He would form the word, dad, but only make a clicking sound. He tried several times before getting frustrated and giving up.

He couldn't sleep Friday because of the pain, but also because he started getting blood from the trach. He evidently went to far with the suction tube and irritated the trachea lining. He had to suction very often because the blood would collect in the trach. It seems like he suctioned every 5 minutes or so for a couple of hours.

Around 4am I finally woke Carol for the second shift. Laying in bed trying to get some sleep I heard Carol talking to Brian. Then I heard another, weak voice! Brian spoke back to her!! Carol called out to me to listen and then he uttered those sweet sounds again to me.

We were ecstatic! It was the first time he had talked in over a month. I don't think he has talked anymore since but it certainly was a bright spot in this ordeal.

He had a great day with Carol yesterday. Friday night I had to give him a dose of medicine and when I found his g-tube among the blankets I noticed the feeding tube wasn't attached. I checked the pump and it was pumping just fine. Oh no!!! In his sleep, Brian must have detached the tube from the pump and it was pouring onto his mattress. After cleaning up the mess I put a towel down so Brian wouldn't have to sleep in the sticky formula. Saturday, Carol had to get Brian out of bed so that she could change his bedding and wash his hair. She said he stayed out of bed all day!!

After not getting much sleep the night before and staying up most of the day yesterday, Brian slept great most of last night. As a matter of fact he is still asleep as I write this.

Thanks for all of your love, prayers and support!

Doug and Carol

Thanks for the update on Brian, Pete, and I'm still praying for him and for all the family! May God bless him each day by easing the pain and ceasing the blood flow! I'm so glad to hear that he was able to speak a little because that is a blessing to him and mom and dad! May the Lord give each of you peace and comfort with His loving arms around everyone! Amen! God Bless! Betty

For the big and little things! :)

praying that the sleep and healing continues.
