Brian's Battle - Update (couple hours ago)

We had a long day, up at 5:30am EST, hit the road at 6:30 and rolled into Nashville about 9 CST. The appointment was for 9:30. We saw the doctor at 11:45. Saw another doctor at 1:00 and finally hit the road for home. We rolled into the driveway at 7:30pm.

They were extremely busy yesterday morning but we did get a little good news. After looking at the CT scan the doc said the tumors were not close enough to the eye socket to worry about at this time. He is afraid that if he does surgery the tumors will just grow back faster and larger. We knew that going in, but we felt like they needed to be reduced some, especially the one on the bridge of his nose. We are all for putting surgery off for as long as possible but we fear if they grow too large other tissue damage could occur.

He then called an oral surgeon to look at Brian's tooth to see if it may be infected. After looking at the x-rays and CT scan he felt the tooth wasn't infected or causing Brian any pain. He also said he felt like he could safely remove the tooth and would assist the plastic surgeon during Brians next surgery.

So, for now all we can do is manage Brians pain the best we can. Our hope was that by reducing the size of the tumors some of the pain would be reduced as well but the surgeon didn't feel that was the cause. He said the nerves run through the jaw bones and since Brians pain originates in the bone and radiates out there wouldn't be a big benefit from surgery.

Brian surprised me last night while we were watching the ball game...he came rolling into the room eating a fudge bar!! Man...I was thrilled to see him actually eating something. The last thing he ate was the soft taco back in January and a few attempts of mashed potatoes. His doctor told him yesterday, once again, that it was perfectly fine for him to eat soft foods. It looks like we'll have to make a trip to the store and stimulate the economy!!

Thank you for your thoughts, prayers and support!!

Doug and Carol

Good news about Brian's eating soft food again, but sorry to hear that nothing can be done right now for his tumors and pain! But you know God is the ultimate healer and He is still on His throne! If I were able to do so, I would fast as well as pray for Brian, for some of these illnesses and diseases are only conquered by prayer and fasting! I am so sorry that I am not able to do that for him! God Bless him, for he is a brave young man with lots of courage and strength to keep on, keepin' on for himself, you, Carol, Sarah and for Jesus! God Bless! Betty

Glad he is eating. I will continue to pray for him.
