The surgery got started later than we expected and lasted a total of three hours, longer than we expected. Brian did well with minimal blood loss. He is in more pain than usual but I think that is because he awoke from surgery sooner than he has before. Normally, he will be knocked out most of the first day during the most intense pain.
They just gave him a more powerful dose of pain meds that will hopefully allow him to get some sleep. Brian just had another intense wave of pain but has relaxed a little now. We feel so helpless not being able to do anything to relieve his pain. It is very frustrating.
His surgeon was very pleased with the amount of tumor he removed from the cheekbone areas, his upper lip and parts of his upper jaw. The tumor on the bridge of his nose wasn't reducted this time so it may actually stand out more now that his cheeks look a little more normal sized. Even with the swelling he looks much, much better.
The doc said he probably wouldn't release us until next Monday or Tuesday but we suspect we'll be released sooner, hopefully by the weekend.
We are wiped out!! I only got about three hours sleep last night and Carol didn't get much more. Now that Brian is resting better I think I'll get off of here and catch a cat-nap.
Thanks for thoughts and your prayers!!
