My son has the ears broken off his MF xterra coil 9" and wonders how to fix it. I know it can be done and I have read on the fourm that this is quite common on the xterra coils. in fact the one I bought off the web had a broken ear and it was repaired by the seller and they are still working well a year later. I e-mailed him to see what he used and he couldn't remember but had some left at home but he wont get home untill afte Thanksgiving He is in Rome at the time.
Before I tried gluing it, I would call Minelab. Especially if it is still under warranty. Even if it is not under warranty, they might offer up some suggestions. Otherwise, if you want to see what glue some used, do a search for broken ear on this site. Then read the follow up posts or contact that person to see how long it lasted. HH Randy
that is good advice from Randy. I had that very same issue and called Minelab. It was still under warranty and they replaced it at no cost to me. Only money I put out was for shipping the old coil to them. Had the new one inside a week as I remember. And I believe they have changed their design a bit to make the new ones more durable. I have not had that problem since.
I fixed mine by gluing the pieces back on with a good quality super glue and laminating the outside of the ears with a couple of layers of fiberglass cloth set in a non metal bearing epoxy. As you can see in the picture, it's not pretty but it's strong and holding up well.
Thanks ever one for the fast replays This coil is not under Warranty and I have fixed my coil buy gluing the ears back on and using non metallic bondo on the outside of the coil ears and they are still working over a year now Thanks everyone.

WeedWacker,
My son works for a plastic fabricating company and they have fixed a couple of my coils for me and some of my friends. They use ABS plastic pieces glued to the sides of the ears (with the appropriate holes) and they use just everyday ABS glue you can buy @ Home Depot. If you make the ears too thick, the factory bolts don't work. But Home Depot sells longer nylon bolts with wing nuts too!!!!!!!!!!!!
