broken explorer

hi all.
received my new explorer se pro today. put it together and found it was dead on arrival.hvae to send it to vegas to get it repaired. they said i couldn't exchange it at local dealer. more expense and back to waiting

That stinks, surely you wont have to foot the bill for shipping!??!!

That totally sucks. Serious? brand new and not working? Why the heck would the dealer not exchange it if they want your repeat bus? Is that a Minelab policy or the dealer policy? Hope things get better for you. Good news is Minelab will take care of it. But I agree...AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH still waithing ggggggggggggg!!!

I'd love to know which dealer did that - so we can ALL avoid the scumbag. I mean come on DOA and they wash their hands of it? That's really totally BS and what good is the dealer if they just want to take your money and won't stand behind what they sell? I'd tell Minelab about it as well. Most dealers I know are very dedicated to their customers and would never do a thing like that, unfortunately it sounds like you got a real skunk there. If that's really how it happened please let us know who screwed you so we can make sure we don't put another nickle into their bank account.

it wasn't the dealer. he was as upset as i was. when i called minelab support to see if i was doing something wrong. they refused to let me exchange it. they said it needed to be sent in to vegas

Id let the dealer deal with that and told him to give me a new one. He can send it in .... why should you end up with a possible lemon. Why did you have to call minelab support... why didnt he do it or at least pay shipping for you. humm buyer beware of that dealer.

You got one DOA and had to foot the shipping bill to send it back to them? On a 1300 detector??? What are those guys in Vegas smoking I wonder? (And can I have some?)

That is total bulls*** and I wouldn't stand for it, I would demand to talk to the management instead of some peon there and have a new machine shipped for exchange at once. That is completely ridiculous.

Hearing things like this means that I will most likely never buy an Etrac Minelab, if you think you are going to f*** people who shell out big bucks for your machines I'm not going to be one of them. You got back my business and you will lose it by doing things like this, because there are competitive machines out there (think F75) and we can go to the competition. Not cool.

I would like to hear their explanation for this but it really sounds outrageous and I wouldn't stand for it. Tesoro will not do that on a $150 Compadre. Minelab if you really did this, I've gotta say your service sucks. Is this what we can look forward to shelling out over a grand for a new machine?

n/t

if you haven't AND have paid via credit card to the dealer, then it is minelab's and the dealer's problem. call your credit card company and let them know what is going on. they should at least back you up on a brand new machine! good luck!

on the off chance that it is not DOA did you try the alkaline battery pack or just the rechargeable?

First thing was a brand new SE Pro,not a demo or something like that because if it was then it should have been exchanged with no problem. Under the Minelab contract for the dealer the way I understand it is to handle shipping it in and give you a detector to use.Being new and never used Minelab would either repair it or replace it for the dealer and still be a brand new detector. If it was used then if it was a local dealer that sold it to you it would be a good policy for him to send it in for you, but if was bought from a mail order dealer then you would be better off sending it in yourself in order to get it back sooner.
Like i say if it was brand new the dealer you bought it from should take care of it for you by either exchanging it or sending it in to be repaired while he let you use one he has.

u may have to pay for the shipping, but that should be part of the warranty, shouldn't it? Brand new machine. Biggest pain for you should be the time spent waiting. I would think all else ( including shipping) would be covered.:usaflag:

thanks for all the feedback. i took some of your advice. #1 icanceled the credit card payment. # 2 i'll return the extra coil and all the rest of the goodies except the amont i have in shipping costs. # 3 i'll buy a whites dfx and deal with a reputable american company.

Being a competent dealer himself imagine he knows the procedure and we should all be guided by it..Good luck in your ventures and have to say over the years with Sov's and Explorer's Minelab U.S.A. has been a pleasure to work with whether it be a question or a repair situation. Have to wonder about this dealer myself...I know my local dealer actually gives you a used unit to hunt with and takes care of correctly sending it back if the situation arises..

I can understand your aggravation but if you stick it out and get a working SE you will be rewarded with the finds from said machine.Especialy if you are seeking the older deeper coins ,rings and relics.
Good luck,Ray.

And now this from their Dealer..makes you wonder a little doesn't it.

Was it the dealer, Does Minelab not want to replace defective machines, Are all going to be repaired. and not replaced with factory built spec machine .and if wrong from the start will it ever be a perfectly working machine..???????????? Just wondering.

I would fire off a letter to Minelab Hq. Ask them just what there policy is re: a DOA detector. I would think if dealer doesn't know the Co. policy he shouldn't be a dealer. Some thing doesn't smell right.

come on swish:no one else wants to get tangled up in a bad deal too,so let us all know where that sucker came from...hh
