Bryce and others with an 18 X 15 SEF HELP :surrender:

I took the SEF 18 X 15 coil out today for its maiden voyage, and I think it sunk with no survivors.... I tried it on 2 different SE's, in 2 different locations in case it was EMI, at all settings from Semi Auto 22 all the way down to 1!!, every conceivable gain setting, and all I can get this thing to do is sound like a monkey playing a Calliope continuously!! It doesn't matter if it is on the ground, held up in the air, noise cancelled, not noise cancelled etc... all it wants to do is play a very bad rendition of Yankee Doodle Dandy... ALL the time. I also checked under the coil cover for anything, it was clean as a whistle. Any thoughts? Other than that, the two machines ran flawlessly with any other coil I put on them. Have I got a bad copy? Thank you for any input...

Mine never behaves like that. Any chance you got an X-1 and forgot and left it switched to the probe? All my SEFs are super. I don't even use the ProCoil anymore. jim

I have the X-1 on one machine, but the other I used it on does not have anything between the coil and the electronics. Unfortunately that wasn't it... I read Bryce's review and he said it was very stable, that is why I am thinking there is something wrong with it, it was nothing but random noise. Thank you for the reply.

My first bet would be a bad connector on the cable. Did you use the same battery for the machines when you tested ALL the coils? With the machine on what do you get if you disconnect the cable or just set it on the ground and not mover it? Did you try rebooting to factory settings? Murphys Law....

STEADY as it gets in cruddy ground...trash...EMI...etc.

It's also as "heavy" as it gets.:smoke:

It could just be my IL soil...but I can run my settings just like I do on the 10 x 12...12" Sunray...etc.

I can run gain at 10 and sensitivity as high as manual 26 with little to no falsing or chatter.

If you're hearing "Yankee Doodle Dandy" on a coil that size...I'm glad I am missing that concert:bouncy:

Seriously...doesn't sound like the 15 x 18 coil I know.

Just kidding and it sounds like a faulty coil to me.The first 12 x 10 I tried was faulty but the one I have now is as smoothe as butter .My 12x15 is the same way.Good luck on getting it sorted out:detecting:

I used 2 different batteries, in 2 different machines. When I disconnect the coil I get no sound other than the threshold from the machines. With the coil attached to either machine, sitting perfectly still on clean ground I get those dang monkeys playing the Calliope.... I changed everything around I could think of, and the problem ALWAYS followed the coil.

Thank you, I will contact Kellyco and start the process of getting it sent back.

I even tried moving the coil wire but no results, it must be totaly separated.

And have already been contacted back... ON THE 4TH OF JULY.... Ok, THAT is service!! UPS is being issued a pickup order, and a NEW coil will be on the way.
Thank you again for all that have posted on this.

My friend.... I bought one of this......is junk!!!!! Is much better the original 10" more accurate. 100% tested

Just because you didn't like it... doesn't mean it's "junk".

As a matter of fact...it works VERY well for me.

I took my girlfriend to the IL state fair last year and when I saw this little monkey with the Flattop haircut that looks like mine...I had to have a picture taken with her.
It was one of those little sideshow booths and you could pay $5 for a pic with it.

Funny thing was that one lady tried to have her pic taken with her...and the little female monkey whizzed on her white pants. :crylol:

A second woman tried to have a pic taken with her and the little monkey reached up and popped her in the nose...then bit her on the arm:biggrin:

When I sat down...she scampered over to me...licked my knee...then jumped right up in my lap for the pic.

I had LabradorBob who moderates the maps forum...superimpose the monkey by herself for my avatar.:bouncy:

I would really like an 18 x 15 SEF coil for my SE , but boy are they expensive. I'm still recouping from my SE Pro purchase ( even though I got a great deal - thanks Richard ) , and having to replace all of my ball joints and wheel bearings on my Blazer - I think if I put that off any longer I would have lost a wheel while I was driving - didn't sound like fun to me. I'm hoping that by early August I can start looking for a decent used one. I am thinking that it may be pretty hard to find a used one though. I hope that everybody had a happy 4th of July. My 4th was o.k. except that it rained all weekend here in northern Wisconsin , and I just had hernia surgery today ( Tuesday the 6th ) , so I'm going to be out of the swing of things - if you catch my drift - for a little while. Happy Hunting everybody. CoinShooter-Craig
