i found this button in my yard today and hope someone can help me out with it.it was about 8 inches deep. has some writing but cant read it. thanks alot

Without looking in the 'button book' - it's two piece, standard army issue beginning in the early 1900's. It's in pretty nice shape. Good depth - which machine?

was using my tesoro vaquero.also found these goodies...merc 1941,3 wheaties 1918,1942,195?. and this eagle thing that might be a cane topper?? very solid like brass.well my pics are too big. i set the camera on the smallest setting.i will try scanning these like i did the button.

Nice Merc and wheats:yo:

its a world war two button from a military uniform. Scovill made these buttons for the U.S. military since before the civil war. The civil war buttons have more of a wild eagle on the front without the shield. I found one just like that about 4 months ago.

Look up scovill buttons on the internet and youll find pictures of the fronts and backs and you can figure out exactly when its from and what variety. Since you found it so deep it may be world war 1.
