Buying a Quattro

Hi all. I asked some question awhile back about the Quattro and Explorer. I am looking to buy either one really. I don't car about having all the bells and whistles on the Explorer so I really jsut wanted to know from Quattro users if they felt from a performance standpoint, that the Quattro stacks up against the Explorer in the depth department.

I don't see why it wouldn't since they run the same frequencies etc. I have heard that the Quattro locks on a little better at depth. Well I thought I would ask anyways and get some opinions before buying one.

Thanks,
Joseph

Hello Joseph, I have both and used both machines. Depending on the sort of detecting you want to do, the Explorer 2 will more finely discriminate than the Quattro. The explorer also does go a little deeper than the Quattro on old goldfields here, but at the end of the day, I get a lot more targets. The Quattro locks onto targets a lot better than the Explorer in my opinion, having used the two. But the double D coil on either machine gets a little getting used to. Don't get me wrong, the Explorer is a fantastic machine, but personally I prefer the Quattro in any type of detecting, whether at the beach, parks or goldfields. It's just a little less complicated, and more true to it's read outs.
Angela:) But then some may disagree! For what it's worth!

Thank you Angela.
I would mostly be coinshooting here in California. Can't say I hit the beaches much. I used a Sovereign GT for awhile and it was a great deep machine but I know the Explorer and Quattro go deeper so it's a hard choice for me right now.

I have been using the Exp II for about two months now. In my soil conditions the Quattro goes deeper. They both get about the same depth it's just that the Exp II is more "jumpy". Also tends to false a little more when cranking up the gain. So if you consider better performance depth and proper id at depth then I would vote for the Quattro. If you consider performance target separation combined with depth, then I would vote for the Exp II. Overall I feel the Exp II is a little more versatile even though I don't enjoy using it as much as the Quattro.

here is a good honest depth test for a number of machines including the quattro

hope its usefull :)
