C$ ground balance

I read somewhere about re-ground balanceing the CS or re-ground as needed. How do you know when it is necessary to re-ground? Also, do you have to reground if you are using auto-tracking?
Thanks.

It;s made to be easy and requires no "bobbing" & such. Basically if you have auto tracking ON then you don't in theory have to re-balance as it is supposed to change as the ground changes. If you have auto balance OFF then pushing the button & raising the coil a few inches every once in awhile is what I always did.......

Bill a quick question for you - I know ground balancing is very important on the C$.

In areas that seem to make the machine a bit unstable, and it's difficult to GB, do you think enabling auto tracking will self correct the GB ?

Sure I think that might help.....autotracking is a great feature that is worth utilizing.
One good tip that I always use (knowing that good balance is crucial on the C$) is to be sure you find a very clean spot of ground. You can do this by watching the LCD for a spot of soil that shows "00". Others hold the pinpoint pad down to do the same thing.......
You may have to move around for a few min. in a trashy or mineralized site. But, again it's worth it to get it set right. Another thing folks ran into is trying to balance the very sensitive C$ under some powerlines or even along the side of a house. That throws the balance way out of wack, and may just make the detector go spastic (I know alot went back to the factory thinking it was broken). I have said before, that even if you have to go on the other side of the road to get it balanced that may be the only way to get to hunting there. The same holds true trying the C$ on a wet sand beach. Don't balance the detector in the wet black sand. That's the same as balancing it in iron on land. Many say the C$ won't work on the beach, but I have had some success by simply balancing in the drier sand & then moving down to the waterline.......

Thanks for your insight Bill.

What I sometimes find challenging is that the ground out here seems to be "hot" as a lot of locations I never seem to be able to get a patch of "00" metal free ground. I have a hard time believing every square inch of soil in the Bay Area has metal, so I feel like it's a challenge to ground balance the C$ a lot of the time out here.

I'm assuming the downside of not GB'ing correctly is that you'll loose a LOT of depth and get a lot of falsing ?

Does the F75 ground balance easier
