c.scope cs4pi

I have one, works well, and well built.
Is great at the beach, does not like hot rocks so don't take it to the gold fields.
Has a variable Pulse Width Control which give rough discrimination and helps tune out elec interference.
Control box is not waterproof. it is light weight and easy to swing all day.
capable of finding some rings and coins at good depth (better than 12 inches)in wet sand.
I have not tried mine on black sand but being a PI I would say it would be fairly good.

Weak volume but well made and a deep seeker.

i didn't receive any immediate replies and as i was headed to the beachon the 24th i went ahead and purchased it used for just under $300. previous owner had done a mod and mounted box under armrest, this made detector seem almost weghtless.i am new to p.i. but i can tell you this,i am keeping this machine! it's very well made and it punches deeeeep.it isn't waterproof but i'm only a wet sand hunter anyway.(on previous trips i've used my explorer xs and did ok but this is another ballgame) as i said i'm just a beginner but this detector is simplicity itsel.a turn on and go basically.the only con i see in this detector is coil is wired straight into box (can't change coils)so if you're thinking of a beach machine and you're not going to go in surf, keep a lookout for one of these....hh...jb

All C-Scopes tended towards low volume with their excuse being that they exported world wide and had to comply with hearing damage regulations for the strictist country. All you would do with the land models was open up the box where the headphone socket is and change the value of the, senior moment, resistor ? attached to the socket.

It remains the best buy in Pulse for value for money at just over

I'm interested in these C.Scope PI detectors - is the newer CS4pi a significant improvement over the older CS6pi model...?

Many thanks

Significant no. I finally got the chance to run the two together and the 4 had the edge though it was a near new detector and the 6pi must have been ten years old.

You lose the battery check meter of the 6pi but gain by the newer machine being lighter and having the option to hip mount the control box if you want. There's also the plus that C-Scope brought in the 4pi at a lower price than the older detector sold at which is almost unheard of.

I'm considering getting one - I fancy a challenge and from what I've read, learning to use a Pi detector is a treat once you understand what it's telling you.

I've just been reading on a U.S. forum that ALL C-Scopes are rubbish ! Still they also have the plans to build a fully discriminating pulse for $50 so the grip on reality is weak to say the least.

I agree Brian - I have a CS3MX and it's superb and simple to understand.

They may not be as effective in American soil in the same way as American detectors may not be ideally suited to ours but mine works great in English soil.

As you obviously have experience with Pi machines, do you have anything else useful you could add to help me decide...?

I'm looking for a machine for the beach and Pi seems to be the way to go once you understand it - I'm happy with my other C.Scope and can't seem to find anything else from other manufacturers in the price range.

Many thanks

Price difference is the problem. The C-Scope is great value. One little forum spat (one forum says ALL C-Scopes are rubbish so it must be true) suggested that a fit 70 year old who only wanted to work went sand, not surf or dive, should get the Whites D.F. though he said money was limited. It was suggested that he was "cracked". While my D.F. is deeper than the 4 or 6pi a big plus to the C-Scope was he could buy three for the price of the Whites and still have money over.

I love my Deepstar, Goldquest SS in fact any of Eric Fosters detectors, I've even got an old Beachscan. Only had one retune between the whole lot in years. All expensive compared with the C-Scope that could be considered Eric's budget line but you do get what you pay for.

If you get a secondhand Whites Surfmaster you won't be much further forward than you are now but could select a black coil version thats lighter for beach use or weighted yellow for in the water. The Dual Field has a few inches more depth and is a little coil heavy and I can't identify iron as well as with Eric's machines with adjustable SAT or the smaller mono coil of the Surfmaster. That leaves Detector Pro's Headhunter P.I. Mid price but the U.K. dealer retired from selling detectors so you might have to import. I found the H.H. up with the Dual Field if fitted with the large coil but then you lose the fine gold chains that the smaller coil option will pick up. Unfortunately you can't switch coils as with Garrett water machines. There's still a question of reliability with the Headhunter design. Though improved they are perhaps the most fragile and if you had to return to the U.S. there's the cost and how long the return trip would take.

Having totally confused you (and myself) I would look for a Goldquest SS which seem as rare as hen's teeth or a secondhand Whites D.F. (

Hi Brian...Read your comments with interest.Tell me do you use a scoop with the D/F.I am in the process of buying a S/H D/F and wondered whether i need go to the expense of a full sized stainless steel scoop and also can you recommend a source for them
