Cache of pennies

Most pennies I ever dug at one outing. About half were found in a hole about 2 ft in diameter. Each stack represents 5 pennies for a total of 135 pennies;plus other clad. Most coins I ever dug in one outing too!HH

You must have a secret digging weapon! As you mentioned, about half where in a hole already but that still is a large number of coins - great find.

I use a normal gardening spade. Do you have any tips that could speed up the process? I've tried sharpening the damn thing, which works for grass roots. Only other thing I can think of is a diving knife or maybe something like a prawn pump for grass??? A hey-presto one-time plug cutter for grass, sand and gravel would be great.

Any suggestions would be appreciated -

A leische digging tool. Great for digging;cutting roots and anything else that gets in the ways.It is about the best on the market. You can pick up one for about 40 bucks. Well worth the money and labor it will save you.HH

One thing I forgot to mention. These pennies were found in sand. It is a lot easier to scoop them up then to dig them. Otherwise;this ole man would have never gotten so many . HH

I was going to say, you must really be tired. :) I've never found that many in one hole but have over a large area at schools where the kids toss them for some reason. Nice pile of change.
