I have a Master Hunter CX Plus with the depth multiplier attachment. Will this combination detect a layer of sheet metal about 2 feet by 4 feet in size and approximately 3-4 feet in the ground? The sheet metal has been covering a box of unknown composition for about 35 years. I also don't know the gauge of the sheet metal used.

Thats a good question.
What you can try to do to answer that is,,,, do a air test. Find something comparable to what you think you are looking for. Lay it on the ground and stand on the picnic table and give it a try. If it wont pick it up above ground, chances are it wont pick it up buried.
Sheet metal rusts so not sure what that is going to do for you. It could make it better, or easier to find but I;m not sure.
The biggest item I have ever dug up was a car rim. It was aleast 2' in the ground, maybe a little more. That was with a standard 8" coil on my Bounty hunter. It picked it up loud and clear.
I see you just registered. Are you familiar with metal detecting and metal detectors?

To answer your question regarding the depth multipier, you should be able to detect a gallon sized metal object at five feet depth. So a layer of sheet metal 2'x4' about 3 to 4' depth should be no problem. Then again, depending upon the mineralization of the ground and the level of corrosion in the metal could pose problems, but my geuss is you should be able to detect it loud and clear.

If you're talking about the two-box it should pick it up with ease as it will pick up a gallon can at about that depth.
