I am concerned over the seeming teething troubles with the F-70. I'd want to get one, but I'd like to feel more confident when shelling out that kinda money.
I've expressed this same fear once already, but it was removed by the mods.
SO lets try a different approach.

Just what do most people seem to be having trouble with? A lot of it appears to be the inter-relationship of the controls and really what can be chalked up to operator errer. But there is an underlying current that says something else is plaquing the F70. You hear it best said as, "Well, if you get one that works, it's pretty awesome..."

A little honesty and open communication here would go a long way. A lot of people that are not Fisher buyers yet have this same concern.

I had the same question when I bought my F-70. I lucked out and I have a good one. I hear there is power in prayer. :rofl:

Get a good Dealer to work for you. That is the answer. There are plenty on this forum. Talk to Mr. Bill at Surfscanner Detectors. Backwoods Detector Sales is anouther one.
 
Surely there is a learning period as with all new units and info and tips are starting to come in and seems we all learn at different levels and of course have different ground conditions to contend with seems like with the merge of two companies quality control suffered and many right out of the box were faulty and in time Fisher will have all the F70 units working up to par..Heck in 92 when the CZ came out it was months before I felt confident with it and the same goes for the new F units by Fisher..
 
Hi Mike, just got to tell you I am a frist time fisher buyer and I can't believe how this F2 works. Got to spend the whole day today with it and man did I have fun. Went to 5 parks and hit the play areas and when it says nickel today it was a nickel. Most nickels I have found in one day(12). then Penny's of the pre 82 (31). Quarters (13) can't believe the hot wheel cars an trucks (7). What a Great Fisher Day. Thanks for the F2.
 
I have been in detecting for almost 25 years now. I own several older detectors and wanted to upgrade to a newer technology.

I own an F-70 and have been using it for almost three months now. One great detector. Very light, very powerful and very sensitive (deep).

I read all the posts about the problems that some were having with the F-70 before I bought it. I read the posts and then looked into other brands and detectors out in the market.

Guess what I found.

Every brand and every detector had someone who was not happy with it. I went all over the net looking for detectors that everyone was happy with. Every detector out there has someone who has a problem with it. There was not a one that escaped not having someone who hated it because it did not work. Even the older models that are still being made are having problems out in the field.

I was thinking to myself, I might not buy any detector because I don't want something that does not work and want to be happy with my purchase and I can't find any that has no problems and everyone who has one loves it.

But then I thought to myself, gee, I would not be happy if I did not get one either. So I decided to get the F-70 because it was what I wanted.

If I would have made the problems others might be having a priority, I would be sitting here with no new detector and wondering if I should get one or not.

BTW.....I'm glad I got the F-70 and am very happy with it. I would recommend it to anyone. And I don't work for First Texas.

To Mike: There was a bit of comfort in your answer, Mike.
- We have had some bad coils along with other legitimate problems... It was nice to hear that from the horses mouth. That's all I had hoped for.
- It is also important to note our return repair rate % is far lower on the F series than it ever was on the Fisher classics... That is interesting. I'd like to see the stats on that!
- I saw the same detector with a bad LCD being complained about by 2 separate owners on this forum
 
The original CZ6(circa 1992) the new style plug that goes in the control box failed on many along with bad coils also and a good portion had to have the bad plug replaced and over the years the CZ certainly became Fishers Top of the line seller and personally wasn't confident with my original CZ6 which indeed had the bad plug replaced for months in the field due to it liking deep iron nails so tune ahead to 2008 and you can see with anything new bugs have to be ironed out, units learned. Just my thoughts on my first cup of coffee on a cold winters morning in Pa. Moral of story history sure repeats itself and perhaps in the future the F series will replace old technology and the F series will be one of the best around..
 
It is difficult to keep up with many of the forums although we do try to answer questions as best we can when we can--best bet is always a phone call or email. Thank you for the compliment......

Forums have alway been a part of the hobby that have been fun for me second only to detecting and I am glad to be able to partiipate whenever I can.

Here is a picture of my smallest and largest Fur Trade era axes I found this year, both are late 1700's and one of my all time favorite things to find.
