Can a regular T2 be upgraded?

Not been offered by FT

If that might be the case, they probably would have publicly offered an upgrade option to previous owners. Like when early T2 R6-version owners could upgrade to r6.5, or when the Time Ranger was changed to run on C-cell batteries for about a year or so, a $30 upgrade was offered. So chances are there's some circuit or other changes required such that an upgrade path is not easily doable.

I have one of the first "regular" T2's off the line... I'm very pleased with it. I guess I had it updated which I paid as
best I remember $50 and had something to do with old bottle caps. For many years only the 11-inch "DD" open
spoke search coil was available, but the 5-inch "DD" sniper" coil is also now available.

For awhile I wished that there would be (as an example) a 5x10 ellipitical, but it only has the 11- and 5- inch
coils . However, the 5-inch DD sniper coil is awsome. The T2 operates around 13kHz and with the sniper coil,
by keeping it about an inch or two above the ground while coin hunting in grassy park areas it pinpoints good.

Then using just an electrician screwdriver to pinpoint and gauge the depth and using a small tack puller the coin
can be retrieved and by gently closing the slit and no one knows you dug there. I also remove any trash found.

I never hunt anywhere without permission, if needed, There are still many trashy areas that are open to coin
hunting... and still find old silver dimes with the sniper coil in trashy parks that have considered too trashy for
other coin hunters.

I have the old verson of the t2 & in 06 or 07 I sent it in for the 6.5 upgrade. then i had trouble with the coil. sent it back to be repaired. Got it back, opened
the box got it out. I made the comment to my wife that this is not the same detector that i sent back to them. But i kept it and used it for two or three yrs.
then after i read some of the comments here. I checked to see the 6.5 But it is a 6.0. I called the company. The person ( woman) after i told her my story.
She said that thay didint ofer that upgrade. WHAT then what was the $50.00 i sent you for? lol Then i end the call.

Upgraded Hand grip and sealing the Meter head and coil.......... if I remember correctly..........

Elton thank you. But the t26.5 that i payed for i remember very plainly. and thay replaced free for me. i didint need the seal job as i dont hunt in rain or mist.
as i am to old and not a die hard hunter. lol Thank you elton. Respectfuly Don digadime69

Ok...Thanks for the come back response.......... I certainly could be wrong on what the 50 was for !.

Elton
What thay replaced for me free was the hand grip. and when i received it i wraped it with black eletrical tape. was tired of it spliting.
I was hoping D. Johnson would conferm what i was saying about the 6.5 upgrade. thanks digadime69.

Elton you are not wrong. about the $50.00 seal job & replacment of handgrip. But i could be wrong about the 6.5 upgrade. I not trying to be argumenitive.
thank you Digadime69

I just thought you were trying to confirm what you paid for............... and I thought it was just a seal job and upgraded hand grip that was better stronger material. I also noticed on mine it was a
little larger on the grip when I got it back....

Maybe Dave J will jump in here and clarify if you did or didn't get a version upgrade. They may have changed the number to show that upgrade of seal and grip for warranty purpose but I in fact do not think that was the case............ We both could be right, or we both could be wrong.........................

Just my thoughts... Jim Straight here

Evidently the bottle cap revision (different tones) has NOT been available for years. However, I had it done when
the T2 was first sold. back about late 2005 or early 2006. But revision or not, David and John got it right the first time...

To know if you have a revision, check your Operating Manual: See pg 13...number of tones... WITHOUT the revision
the selections are 1, 1+, 2,+, 3, 4.

WITH the revision the selection of tones are different: 1, 1+, 2+, 3, 3b, 4, dp. Those that chose the tone
revision paid $50 for it... The 3b was for areas with many steel bottle caps which was a major concern for many.
The dp was a delta pitch. This is explained in the manual that came with the revision

I had my early T2 revised, but I feel it was not necessary... I'm sure that most early T2's were not revised and
somehow I believe those that were not revised may have had more raw depth (?).
