Can anyone help me identify this find

This morning I went to my local river county park to do some detecting with my Equinox 800 and I found this item along the shore line in the mud and tree roots. I was using Park 2 and the VID comes in 17-18. I checked it with a magnet and the triangular wire around it is magnetic, but everything inside is nonmagnetic. It looks homemade, but I don't have a clue on what it was for. Any ideas.

Maybe some sort of fishing apparatus

Are those 3 things in the middle crystals or metal?
I believe their metal. They have a gold metallic color. The ends have faceted angles almost like crystals. I guess I could pull one out of the cluster to see if it it will be picked up with my detector. On second thought, they don't come apart that easy. There's a hole in the middle of them with the wire going through.

Perhaps a poor mans sinker..
I agree. I believe this is a spring like contraption. When the fish pulled on the line that was hooked to the loop end the mechanism separated with gentle force “setting the hook” Just my educated guess.

It's a homemade "diviner". If left near or along side of a water source (creek, pond, mud puddle) it detects "metal detectors". Appears to have detected yours. ;)

Hey, that's a good answer. I'll just put this with my unusual finds. It seems like you never know what will show up when dig.
