Can someone please show me how they made their Excalibur hipmount.....

I am looking to make a hipmount for my Excalibur. I have a vague idea of how it might be done, but I am turning to the experts for advice. Any picture, pointers, sources for supplies, etc will be greatly appreciated. I already have an aluminum tube I am planning on using. Thank you in advance for your help.

Take a piece of 1/2 PVC pipe and cut it so it sticks out past the length of your electronics. I would not use aluminum tubing but maybe that is just me. Drill two holes in the end to clip to or put split rings like on keys into the holes. Put your electronics and battery on to the PVC and mark the 3 holes. Drill the holes and mount your electronics and battery using the nylon bolts available at Lowes. Buy a belt with snaps on the end (plastic is best or Stainless) and clip your machine on. You can also chest mount this and this works even better. I use a harness made for extreme photographers to hold their camera case against their chest. It works superb and is very comfortable and totally adjustable for all body types. Be sure to put a rope from the split ring or belt to your S shaft to prevent pulling the wire out if your shaft gets yanked on. This is the chest harness I use on every machine I own. It works superb and puts the controls up close so you can see them and keeps those fragile knobs safe. Total cost about $39 with the PVC. http://www.thinktankphoto.com/products/digital-holster-harness-v2.aspx Lifetime warranty on the harness. This is the bomb.

I made mine out of 3mm aluminium plate. I cut it 3 inches wide by about 15 inches long and put a gentle curve in it to fit around my waist. At each end I cut a slot wider enough to fit some dive weight belt webbing.
I then cut two pieces of the aluminium plate into triangles and bent the top and bottom the attach to the main waist plate and length of aluminium tube which the Excal attaches to. You just need to fiddle with the bend angles on the triangle pieces to get the control box sitting square on the curved back plate. I used marine grade stainless bolts and rivets to hold it all together.
Finally I used a strip of neoprene off an old wetsuit and glued it to the inside of the back plate for some padding. I also made a cable strain relief so the cables can't be pulled where they enter the control box.

In the picture of the finished product on the table it has a knob guard I made on it but I found it unnecessary. I also have a lanyard that attaches from the end of the shaft under the arm cuff to the belt.

All up it took a couple of hours in the shed one weekend and cost maybe $20-$30 in materials.

Hope that helps.

I'm also using the Excall as a hipmount on my side, but during a search I'm constantly adjusting my sens depending on how the detector is performing.

I'm wondering how to adjust when you are having the detector on your back.

This is an Old Pistol Pouch that I found at a Thrift Store. I sure would like to find a spare. I put a 1 inch grommet in the bottom to drain out water if I am in the surf, works terrific. I haven't been able to find another one , I've used it for about 5 years

I pretty much set my sens and leave it. I can reach around and adjust controls if needed. Mainly just the disc/pinpoint knob.
