Can`t decide on vaquero or golden u max

I am an AT Pro and Fisher CZ6A user but the features on the Golden U max with the new discrimination system sounds like a killer machine.
Has anyone used the Golden and can comment on how it works? I have read some of the posts on this forum and they are all positive. I would appreciate any comments...Thanks

My first Tesoro was the Vaquero. Is very deep but no tones, sold it after three years. My Golden isn't quite as deep, gets a dime in air tests at 9" max. I'm keeping it in case I start searching for gold jewelry again. It has fixed ground balance but in my mild soil it works fine. The Goldens best feature is the 4 tones and the 2 Notches. Notches can be made a little narrower or wider when needed. The regular disc knob and the notches can both be used at the same time. Only ladies gold rings will be accepted while in notch mode, class gold rings and mens gold rings will be rejected along with the pulltabs and screwcaps. While in notch mode the Threshold can be turned down for even better rejection of the deeper tabs, strange but the deeper tabs are harder to reject than the shallower ones, the Threshold helps there. I like the Golden, great tones and goes plenty deep. Its my gold machine but I tried it in a field one time looking for old coins and it surprised me at the depth it was finding tiny brass rivets. It isn't my main old coin detector but its a keeper.

I have both and presently I can not decide which one I'd keep if I could only have one detector. If I hit a really trashy site, out comes the Golden. When I'm at an older non-trashing site when there's a good chance of finding deep silver coins, out comes the Vaquero. Also when I feel I need to be more selective in my digging because of how well the area I'm detecting is manicured, out comes the Golden. Then there are times when I feel like digging everything, out comes the Vaquero.

When I decide to take either the Vaquero, Bandido or Eldorado with me to a new site, you can be assured that the Golden will be in car as either the main detector or as the backup detector.

Do yourself a favor and get both.

I just use my Compadre for everything now.

The 5.75" coil will get 6" in depth which is all I need.

It is very sensitive to gold if you keep your discrimination low.

If you set your discrimination above "iron", with or without notching, you are going to exclude gold. Sad but true.

If you want to hunt coins exclusively, the Golden is an excellent choice with that notching feature.

If you really want to go after gold, just get a Compadre and be prepared to dig a lot of trash.

Smudge, on my Golden I'm still able to pick up a really small super thin 14k ring at the preset mark. It discriminates out halfway between the preset mark and the nickel mark. You must be talking about something really small.

the compadre is without a doubt a hot jewelry finder but so is the golden
so far this year with the golden set at preset no notch i have found 31 rings many of them were small thin gold some were as deep as 6

wait hold the ph no only joking any tesoro will find you goodies, was just sayin to a mate my other 2 land detectors have been in the shop and all i have had is Cibola and CSC and now others are back i cant put the Cibola down, found me another ring today 925 with nice amethyst, it just keeps finding them.

I wonder why they named it the Golden uMax, because it's a heck of a coin shooter?

The notching ability is the best thing about the Tesoro Golden uMax, because you can eliminate a lot of trash with it, but still be able to find plenty of small gold jewelry in the trash that's left. It hits really hard on nickels and gold jewelry. There's more small gold jewelry lost than large gold jewelry. I like the odds of finding gold jewelry with the Golden using the notch feature.
