Havent posted in here in a while, just dont have the time to get involved with detecting because of work. Got off work early today and hopped my neighbors fence and put the ATPro in gear Found some newer coins and a medal for archery. On my last target signal the vdi on the Pro was bouncing from 94 down to the single digits, but it would lock on with 89 or 94 with 2 way audio and then nothing just bouncy, the ATPro was telling me something was there, the depth ID was reading at max and 6 inchs bouncy. Any way at about 7 or 8 inchs in the red clay dirt I found this pocket watch. I dont know anything about pocket watches or gold in general. I would like some tips on cleaning this. I ran the Watch under some warm water and cleaned it a bit, U can C the difference in the pics. Whats the best cleaning advice for this ? Mabey boiling it in some water for a while. I do not want to just pry it open. , but I want to look inside of it . I am very happy:crazy: and crazy about this find. I know this Watch is toast, but u cant replace that feelin looking down in a deep hole and see something like polished yellow brass. Any help on cleaning this find is appreciated.

Maybe soak it in olive oil for a period of time !!

Did you think you wouldn't get any questions on your Detector stand?????? Fill us in on all the details buddy. Great find by the way! But we need info on that stand ....Looks super cool!

I have cleaned some toasted watches and they have survived. The hinge may not as it is the weakest link.

I clean gold, silver, brass, copper etc with electrolysis. You will need a 9 volt AC-DC adapter with a MA rating between 300 and 500MA.
Some use a car or motorcycle battery, I have found they are too powerful. They can actually destroy the item and if the item and the spoon accidentally touch they both are toast! The reason is that the car battery has a MA rating 1,000 times what you need.
Also needed are a GLASS cup, a stainless steel soup spoon, water and baking powder. In the GLASS cup dissolve about 2 teaspoons of baking powder in warm water.
You will have to adapt alligator clips (preferably stainless steel, not copper) to the AC-DC adapter so that you can connect the + POSITIVE lead to the stainless steel spoon
and the - NEGATIVE lead to the item (your watch). Place both the watch and big end of the spoon into the liquid and make sure the two NEVER touch and the item is fully submerged. Try to keep the alligator clips out of the solution. If item and spoon do touch, you may burn out the AC-DC adapter when it is plugged in. If all is OK when you plug the AC-DC in, bubbles should appear in the water and a rotten egg smell be detectable.
Let it sit 30 - 60 SECONDS unplug the AC-DC adapter remove the item, rinse, inspect and repeat if not cleaned enough. I have had to go over 5 minutes on some items,
but it is best to check that pitting is not starting on your item every 30-60 SECONDS. The spoon will get pitted.

NOTE: if you do not have the polarity (+ - ) correct you will not REMOVE the crust from the item, you WILL DEPOSIT more onto the item.
You MUST use a GLASS cup, never use a metal one as it will conduct the electricity and you will burn up the adapter.
Use a stainless steel soup spoon that is disposable, not one of you set's best, as it will become pitted and you would not want to bend a good spoon.
I bend the spoon between the big end and the handle so the big end hugs the side of the glass cup and can not slide further into the cup.
I have seen diagrams of the set up on the Internet, but do not have a link.
Others use salt or other chemicals to make the electrolyte, I like the baking powder.

Good luck.

O K heres some details. After drinking about a 6 pack of my Bud I get creative LOL. I got the material off of computer desk chair alot these chairs have a protective cover on the steel parts. So I took it off the chair and cut it down in two pieces . About 8 inchs wide at the bottom of the stand now. I know it wont last forever , but Ive had it on for a few months and I like it. I got lucky because the material was the right size and fit right on to the legs of the stand:thumbup:

I am trying the olive oil, but i think Electrolysis is going to B the real way. In the year 2004 there was a major hurricane hit my town(hurricane Ivan) And flooded my neighborhood and knocked 8 houses down next door, I know thats where this watch came from
