this is probably a stupid question but can you ad the 11" DD coil to the gamma 6000? and is there depth difference between the gamma and omega running this coil?

Yes, you can use the 11" Tek coil on the Gamma. There is very little depth difference between the two machines with the larger coil installed. I did a side-by-side comparison between the two machines and there was no clear winner between the two. However, I liked the sound of the Omega a little better.

hey leo thanks i've probably asked that question before, another question for you does the gamma's ground balance runstable as the omega? i got a buddy of mine that i'm pushing him towards this detector any tips or tricks with this machine from your experience would be great, when you sold your gamma i did'nt have quite enough so i'm waiting for income tax money and i think i'll grab one then

The Gamma I sold had software update version (4) and the machine would ground grab correctly with only a few pumps of the coil. The original Gamma's with software versions up to (3) had a minor glitch that caused the "absence of ground" alarm to continually sound despite the coil being pumped over the ground. I would like to point out that there was nothing wrong with the original Gamma's ability to correctly ground balance. If you currently own a Gamma and you are experiencing a "space invader" like sound when you ground grab and the sound never goes away, you may want to consider having your detector updated to the latest software.

Now, to answer your question. Yes, the Gamma does indeed ground balance just as stable as the Omega. The operating characteristics of both the Gamma and the Omega are very similar with the 11" coil installed. Despite having nearly identical depth capabilities, to my ears the Omega's audio on deep targets sounded a little cleaner when using 2 Tones. I have experimented with all the tones options on the Omega and the Gamma and I have discovered that "fringe" targets sound much cleaner and more pronounced with using 1 or 2 tones. I recently buried a clad dime at 10 inches and when I selected the 3 or 4 tone option the target sounded "iffy" to my ears; however, when I changed to the 2 tone option I was amazed how much better the audio sounded. If you are lucky enough to already own a Gamma or an Omega I urge you to do your own testing and see if your results are similar to mine.
