Can you detect on Portland Maine beaches!

Can you help me . Visiting son, but believe you will be arrested with a federal or state law. Ct state beaches have no law. I am assuming its a state law.

You can metal detect on any of the beaches in Maine as long as it's public land (open to the public), but you need a permit for the State Parks that have beach fronts.

You say you "believe you will be arrested". Why do you believe this? Have you seen something that says "no detecting on threat of being arrested"? If so, let us know the link or citation .
