Can you help me identify this?

It looks like a button at the back side of it writes the word TAWO and on front it is a lion standing and roaring. English army early 20th century used to have similar buttons on their coats, but any idea would be appreciated. Forgive me for the quality of the pictures I need to get a camera.

I may be way off here, but the first thing I thought when I saw it was a well worn North Carolina button, where did you find it?

Thanks brian for feed back but excuse me if I didn't mention this before I found this in England and that is the reason I thought it might be from a British military uniform but I could find anything to compare.
