:canadaflag:Am I breaking my own digging code of ethics?

Leslie(nova scotia)

From the land of the Bluenose.....I am a firm believer that this is a hobby and not for a profit sort of thing. I have never sold anything that I have dug up before save for a tin of junk that I was going to throw out and a Bud from PEI said send it over and we'll go 50 50 ( made $400 USA on that which financed a trip to dig in Yarmouth for a few days) but a retired Mountie at work wishes to buy the ring that is in the photo.

What are your thoughts about this as I'm of a mixed train of thought on the issue that to me is not going to be a new trend nor norm but a possible one shot special thing?

The way I see it...you worked for it and there is no moral or ethical reason not to sell it...especially if you can use the money. If the ring belonged to him in the first place the right thing to do goes without saying.

Have it appraised and sell it to him for 25% of the value. That way you get a little something for your trouble and he gets a good value.

It's a nice ring Leslie!!

The way I look at it, if you didn't find it, it would still be buried. I'd ask the guy how much he wants to pay for it... he gets to pick his fair price and you get a little something. I don't think there's any "ethical" problem here, but that's just me. (not that I've sold anything or plan on doing so)

On the other hand, if you have that much of an issue with it, just give it to the guy. What the heck :) Wouldn't be the first ring you gave away, would it?

First what kind of ring is it? Next what is he willing to pay?
