From the land of the Bluenose.....I'm sure at one time or another we all run across something in this hobby that may mildly irk us, is slightly unpleasant or son of a seahorse upsetting so here goes dis bouys rant:

Mobile manuire makers does the trick here. Dey sneak up on youz and then let lose. Scares the halibut out of dis bouy so I resolved dat youz...don't wear headphones so I can be aware but that is not the worst me son. Den dem ground pounders start to trying to set a fire on da leg.....up and down and in and out. Man dat is annoying as stepping on a sea urchin but dat is not the worst youz. The worst is when youz a going down on a gud bell tone from da Freedom Three Plus and you kneel , yes git down on all fours and din youz smell something a funny and the light gozz on in da fridge and you know you are in da doggie dew. Man if that don't bite the fin off an albacore tuna. Den youz go home smeeling like a cow paddie and da wife she really says youz in dashitz and gives youz da scolding shoulder Dat is all dis bouy has to rant about what is youz?

I did once find a 22Kt gold ring right in the middle of where this very slopper hunter had just dug "all" the easy targets. He also left behind a bunch of shallow coins that he was presumably digging.

Worst think that's happen with earphone on did not hear a dog (friendly) jump on my back as I was digging a target.
Scared the $#!+ out of me tinking I was being attacked.
The dog owner thought it was a big joke. I didn't think it was funny:angry

Mine is.. digging. Seriously, I envy those who have nice sandy soil or soft 'n rich loam. Places I hunt either have a million tenacious roots and/or largish rocks. ..Willy.

Now you hear...now you don't. Those targets that disappear after digging a hole.

Working a huge tot lot all alone when some rug rats show up. They could play ANYWHERE on the huge playground - but where do they want to play? - three feet away from where I am at of course. Mom doesn't care and sits there and does nothing. Seems like I can never be at an empty tot lot more than about three minutes when people start showing up. Happens every time and they all want to be nosey. Guess I'll start going at night or something...

LIke CWIK I hate filling in others holes, but on occasion have found something they missed. Often I'll return to a place I've used before and after others who didn't fill the hole and he/she blames for me for it. Word of advice, if you hunt pastures with cattle beware, they are very curious and will often go to your filled hole and "hoof" it out just because they were curious. This happened to me and a bud one time in a CW related area. The husband was gone the first time, but his wife said sure no problem. Well we found a few things, filled in our holes, showed her what we found and left. Went back a few days later and the husband really laid into us and started swearing about not filling in the holes. We knew we had, but apologized anyway out of courtesy instead of arguing our point and asked if he would show us the holes so we could remedy the matter. He promptly walked us out to the exact area we were digging (so we know it wasn't anyone else) and pointed out the holes. Upon examination you could see cow hoof prints all over the dirt and inside the hole. We politely explained to him it was the cows curiosity and not us. Coincidentally at the same time one of his cows wandered over and started hoofing out another hole near us. At this point he started to believe us and although skeptical gave us permission to continue to hunt. We made sure at the end of the day to take him out to where we had been hunting and show him our filled holes to his satisfaction. Went back a week later and he said the dang cows repeated the process of unfilling our holes, but still let us hunt.

#1 pet peeve rated higher than filling others holes - other hunters who are in the same area at the same time and wander over to see what you just dug up. After seeing what you just found they promptly start to search practically right on top of you instead of giving you the space to search the immediate area for more items that could have been lost at the same time, such as a CW area. Or worse, think you have a "magic" machine and just follow you around all day literally in your back pocket instead of going elsewhere and leaving you in peace.

Sorry for the rant, but you asked.............:sadwalk:

and having to pee an hour into a good hunt while in someones yard that I don't know well enough to ask them to come in and use their restroom. Can only grit my teeth and walk with my kees clinched together for so long!! Minor inconveniences but hey, you asked. Good luck and HH in 2009. Bob.

Being swarmed by house apes all asking a ton of stupid questions, getting underfoot, trying to help you dig, wanting to try your detector, and just generally being the pests that they are.

Bill

One of my prospecting mates would do his business in the morning, and drop a 5c piece on top and cover the hole:thumbdown:. Now every time I dig a 5c out bush, I wonder? Update: He now uses 22 caliber projectiles, we are all in great peril! :shrug:HH regards Nugget.

I sometimes get disgusted when doing the occasional clad hunt because the ground is frozen...or I simply want to. Then, having the odd person snickering and pointing, or having walk bys asking if I'm finding change. I don't know, it just makes me almost feel like a bum groveling for change at times. I'm tired of explaining that I'm primarily out for old coins or relics. I explain that and they sometimes still have that "ya,ya,sure" little smirk on their faces. Actually I zip tied a gold wedding band that I found with my ace, to the shaft. Now when they ask what if I'm hunting for change I just say no, I'm looking for these, and I point at the ring. This changes the look on their faces from incredulity to real interest. It works like gang busters.

this is the one that really gets me, people who think its there right to disturb my precious detecting time i don't mean the ones the ask the usual " are ya finding anything " or the ones the snigger & ask " are ya rich yet " i just snigger with em wile thinking one day you"ll drop that nice looking ring on ya hand mate & i"ll be the one to pick it up  i"m talking about the ones that get in ya face & talk for hours wile tripping over your coil after ya get sick of them you turn & walk off in a different direction & they follow  :punch:  i"v never had this happen with any other type of activity i do only detecting
i"v got a new rule now each persons allowed three questions then i walk if they follow i say excuse me i"m busy it"s a bit rude but hay ya only get one life & i want to enjoy as much of it as i can
