yesterday I put in job apps...couple oil change places and a hardware store.
Went to the Michigan Works! office up here and found a couple more jobs...driving truck for a St. Vincent DePaul store and one for warehouse/driver (truck) for a Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Got lucky and the Veterans Rep was in the office. (Comes like once a month). He usually gets job listings that the Michigan Works! people won't post for a couple days...so Vets get a chance to apply first. Found a job for maintenance at a hotel here (Holiday Inn) and another place I never heard the name of before.
Went to the Holiday Inn and filled out an application and then they wanted to know how I heard of a job at the Inn. I showed them a copy of the MI Works! info sheet...they did not know they had any jobs listed they were taking apps for. They thought maybe a typo so took my app and sent me to the nearby hotel.
Went there and talked about filling out an app. Got one and then headed out to the car...been filling them out in the car, not too comfortable. As I was walking out with app in hand I heard the desk clerk answer the phone with a company name not the same as what is posted on the building. Seems they changed names but not the sign yet. Anyway, didn't have to fill out the app after all as I had already filled one out at the MI Works! office.
The lady at the desk was so glad to chat with me. They are looking for a full time maintenance person and I am looking for full time. I actually was floored after I got home...my first call back of all the apps I have put out in the last couple weeks...yep, the manager of the place I had just left. Will have an interview with him later today.
God made me 'a jack of all trades and master of nothing' for a reason. I think how cool it would be to work in the hotel industry. Meeting new people all the time. Making their stay enjoyable. And get paid for it too.
So been lying in bed for over 2 hours (since about 2 am) wondering about things I know little about...like maintaining a swimming pool in a business environment. Ya know the state has to have requirements to be met, etc. Can't think of anything that I couldn't fix (exxcept the HVAC).
So here it is almost 5 am now and Sherry just asked why I am up - told her can't sleep....we have had no time to talk to each other about anything - feel like the "Lone Stranger". Maybe sometime we can talk. They are looking for desk people too so even if I don't make the grade for maintenance - maybe be a desk clerk. Still good but not as cool hahahahaha.
Anyway, Casey's plans for marriage and moving out are still rolling. Friday will be the wedding day. I wish them both the best .... I wish them God! in their lives.
Still so hyped thinking of how cool it would be to have unlimited access to a big hotel...places where hardly anyone else even knows exists...be able to fix things and make others happy and comfortable. Sorry about the long post...just can't sleep.
