Cataloging software question

New member
Sorry, probably the wrong forum for this question, but this is where all my friends on here hang out, so I'll take a chance! LOL

I would like to catalog my finds, but I don't know where to find software for this. Are there any free software programs out there, or even paid programs for doing this?

Any help would be great!

Thanks guys!

Do you have MS Excel starter on your PC? I would think you could build a satisfactory database to catalog/organize your finds using it.
My copy of Windows 7 came with it installed. All you would need is a basic spreadsheet.

stilpony,

Here is a screenshot of a basic MS Excel spreadsheet I through together as an example. You can add new columns and/or rows as needed plus the quantity of finds is automatically totaled as you add them. With the right formula I'm sure it could be tweaked to also show the total $ value as the coins add up.

This "MS Excel Starter" isn't the full blown model but I believe it would get the job done for you. If you Google "ms excel starter 2010" it's available as a free download.

Just saying.

Yeah that's what I would use, if you have the Office suite installed.you could also try MS Access, it will allow you to create a searchable database, but it would take a lot more work than Excel.
Best of luck, I don't envy your task, I prefer a photographic database, you just pile all your photos into a folder, job done:biggrin:

I made my own spreadsheet also, I have it set up so when I enter stuff it will automatically add up all my coin totals, daily averages, total silver count, number of days MDed, etc..

I counted my first 1,000 coins and after 20 years plus the rest is history...Good idea and won't be the first guy to do so and see some good advice in previous posts.....

Stilpony, send me a PM with your email addy and I'll send you something.

I only count trash to clad finds. If my trash is more I choke the machine and make it find more coins. By choke I lower sens or raise disc.
