Cell phone towers?

born2hunt

New member
Are there any adverse effects while detecting in close proximity to cell phone phone towers? I'm looking at a place that should have a lot of potential but there is a cell tower on the property about 100 yards from the house.

Thanx,
Steve

i hunted near one and the machine was pretty stable until i would lay it down to dig, then it would go nuts..........maybe because the coil was on its side?

Noise cancel first, then go hunting and see what happens. I've hunted near cell phone towers and directly under high voltage power lines with my Explorers with little problems. Good Luck!

Cell phone towers and radio stations are much higher up on the radio spectrum than VLF detectors. Interference usually travels from lower frequencies to higher on the band so EMI from a power transformer would be a more likely problem than a radio/cell tower. The power for tower is probably clean and efficient so you won't have any problems at all plus they onlt switch on when someone is making a call.
