Charcoal falsing on Geohunter?

Scan said 'precious metal' at 7'. Actual target response was due to a layer of charcoal from an old campfire at roughly 1.5'! I know VLF's can suffer in the coke/charcoal and the JH runs on 12khz... is there a certain way to defeat this type of response? Otherwise tests in clean ground do hit 20# of lead at 7', proper scan image and all..

I had the same thing happen with my Red Racer yesterday. I had a 97-98 and found black soil and charcoal at 6-8". I did dug past the dark layer and still got the same signal. The signal registered faintly in the hole and the pile. I quess whatever burned in the fire also created a good halo effect. Good luck in defeating that.
