Charging Batteries with Converter

grumpy

New member
Morning; I was wondering if someone could tell me on the Sov. GT Rechargeable batteries how big of a 12 volt to 110 volt converter would be needed. We are trying to rig up an old camper van to take a few trips and do some metal detecting. I hate to start buying AA bats. when I have two rechargeable batteries. We have a small converter thing that runs the wifes laptop from the 12 volt system to 110/ 125 volt system and it says its a 140 watt powerverter. I would think it would charge the rechargables??? Any of you electric whizes out there could tell me for sure one way or another it would be appreciated. I have a Onan generator under the van that would do it but running it long enough to charge up batteries would not be feasiable.
Thanks Much

Hey Grump....
That inverter is plenty hot, and then some.
Question .....sinusoidal output or square wave?????
Square wave output inverters can have questionable results when used with some appliances. May work fine....may not.

don't think so.....unless the engine is running you will only have about 11 volts. That won't charge crap. In fact would probably drain the battery pack.
