Yesterdays water hunt I got a cross pendant that was totally encrusted and black in color. I said it was probably silver. Well about 30 minutes in my electrolysis unit and some final touch ups by hand and here ya have it! This is an older sterling silver cross that says (I am a catholic Please call a priest) on the back. It also says (Sterling Silver) in very small print under Mary and Jesus on the back. Lot's of detail! Sure turned out nice! :)

Mike,
This may sound dumb, but what is an electrolysis unit and how does it work? It sure seems to help clean silver, will it work on gold or clad coins? Cool find, I have some water finds I'd need to clean, then I can post pictures. Anna and I got a water machine and found our first gold ring last Sat. Eager to water hunt some more.

Congrats on your find,
Brian

Hello Brian....
I did some searching and found this site to help you out...http://gometaldetecting.com/cleaning-finds.html
and if you scrolls down to the electrolysis section, there is an online tutorial on how to build and use one.

Good Luck...

the words are together, then the slash...Im not sure why its doing that maybe blocked.

you got the answer on how it works and what it is. You should not need it one gold, and a waste of time on clad.
I can show you my set up if you want.

Yes please, I am very interested in how you have yours set up. The web site I visited have you using an old adapter and alligator clips, then warns you about over heating and fire risk. Seems like there could be a safer way to make one.

I actually bought mine, but it is that type of device. Mine is only 9V when some guys call for 18V because they are not patient! :)
