Was off work today so we did a little early Christmas shopping and got some change back at a store and noticed the distinct "clink" of the silver sound when I got the change. Well I checked it out when I got in the car and I was correct in what I heard. Got this 64' quarter back in change. I'll take that change anyday, and didn't even have to use my metal detector.

Sweet Bryan. I got a 1934 quarter back in change at an Amish market restaurant about a year ago. The color was unmistakeable - as is the sweet sound.

My parents have an older slot machine in their game room...an old nickel machine. I opened it up and went thru every nickel in it and "saved" two war nickels. Funny because they have had that machine forever and it never occured to me to check it until I found my 1st one detecting this year. I was asked to replace them...which I gladly did with brand new shiny ones.

The best thing is to make friends with the cashiers at your local Convenience store I live in a rural town, the only thing we have is a Pizza Place and two gas stations for 20 miles. I made friends with a couple cashiers at each place. They hold out any "odd" change they get. $ .50 pieces, $2.00 bills, and any pre-'65 change they happen to spot. I dont ask them to go through the drawer, but I give them a little money every time they give me some stuff, so they tend to look as they roll it for the bank. The reason I thought of doing this was my father in law needed Cigarettes, no bank around, no Plastic available, but he had some old coins he had thrown in a coffee mug and was going to send my sister in law to the store with them to buy a pack of cigarettes. She stopped by our house(knows I collect coins) and ask what coin this was? It was a buffalo nickel. There was 3 more and even a 1962 Quarter. So, I gave her $5.00 and told her to take the change back to him. I have been convenience store "sorting" for a couple of years and have gotten probably a gallon bucket full of different things. Including a Presidential Dollar with no edge lettering, and various errors!! The girl was shocked when I sold the Presidential and gave her a good finders fee.

I work in a grocery store and I am in charge of verifying the tills. So far this year just since the first of the year I have found 2 silver quarters, 10 silver dimes, 1 merc, two V nickles, 3 buffalo nickles, and countless numbers of wheat cents. but my best day there was 22 silver half dollars. but that was a couple of years ago. I have also found in the past 40% coins, Canadian silver and one silver dollar all in change.
