On a serious note, I actually cringe when I see posts like this. I am all for eating whole foods that are organic whenever possible. Considering the sedentary lifestyle many lead today, it is unrealistic to thing we can burn off all the processed and fast foods that are available. Our bodies can only metabolize something like 1g of cholesterol per day (don't quote me on that, but I'm not far off). That being said, we eat hormone and antibiotic-free read meat 1-2 times per week and eat chicken and pork several times per week. We buy from a local butcher and the cost is reasonable. Most of our meat is braised, grilled or broiled and we like to eat fish as often as possible too. I spend a great deal of time, energy and money preparing healthy meals and we are busier than the average family. We walk, zumba, garden, etc. Despite that fact that we are meat eaters, Travis has a total cholesterol level of 120 (yes, you read that right) and mine was 142 a few months ago. Our HDL levels are fabulous. That being said...WE DO NOT have model figures. I get really frustrated with those who imply going vegan will give you an amazing body. To get the body in the above picture, you have to have a rigorous exercise routine, a perfect diet AND GOOD GENES. Travis' dad has never been overweight his whole life and eats pretty well, yet he has hyperlipidemia to the point that he has huge fatty tumors growing all over him. Wouldn't matter how well he ate....As for myself, I have thyroid disease and polycystic ovarian disease and it wouldn't matter how I ate either....
To be honest, I get sick of people implying that a vegan diet is a cure-all...it is not! Could go on and on about this, but I'll stop. Martin, I am not trying to be hateful and this really isn't directed toward you, it's just something that has always irked me.
