Civil War & Mineralized Soil Settings

Hey Everyone

I just received my XP Deus and I am still trying to figure everything out. My dilemma is my club has an outing in 4 days to another state to do an outing on private land that was part of the Civil War and the area is highly mineralized so I am told.

Under my belt for a few hours of use I have been running the HOT program and have accumulated 5 silvers, various handfuls of pennies and clad and not to mention the pile of obligatory tax tokens. I prefer the full audio but I am not sure how that would react for Civil War relics.

What kind of setting should I use for these relics & soil?

Thanks in advance!
CJ

Hey CJ. I am a relic hunter, mainly for CW relics. I can share my settings with you for CW hunting, but I pretty much only hunt mild ground. Im in VA, and my settings work great for good ground; around Richmond, Petersburg, east of I-95, and some around Fredericksburg. But forget about it in Culpepper, and places further west of I-95, the soil is just too hot so I run a PI machine out there.

If you give me a general area, I can give you some tips

Thanks The Wolf

The closest I can get to the information is Western Arkansas almost into Oklahoma. This is one of those we will meet here and drive to the site, top secret kinda deals. (rolling eyes) Anyway I appreciate your help.

I will be staying at the Best Western for this hunt. Last name is Stump. BOTTOM LINE: The Deus will not work effectively at this site as you know it. Will it work? Sure but you are going to a site that has been hunted many times with pulse machines and in particular Minelab GPX machines. So targets that are 4-5 inches in the ground are long gone. Sure, with the Deus, you can find a few such targets but they are few and far between and you have to know what to listen for. Now if you are lucky enough to find a trash pit, there is no better machine to use when you check your refuse dirt. Hopefully you have brought a pulse machine with you and your Deus is a secondary machine.....Give me a call and I can fill you in more.

Well I am in Culpeper so that won't help too much. Here are the best settings I have as a starting point.
Sens: 85
GB: Maual
Ground Notch: If hot rocks are a problem 80-100 or find some rock and try setting ground notch for the rocks.
Reactivity: 3
Silencer: -1 or 0 depending on noise level
Discrim: 6.0
Tones: 2
Iron Volume: I like 3 so I can hear possible trash pits
Audio Response: 4 or 5

I like FULL-TONES tones as well but if the ground is mineralized I think FULL-TONES tones will drive you crazy with 0 discrim. Maybe try a discrim setting of 2 or 3 to help knock out the ground some. Then try FULL-Tones tones.

The Gold Field might be tweaked into line as it's set up for
the highly mineralized soils and freq can always be changed
never say never is what I've found with this baby...

Thanks stumpr I will bring everything I have and test them all out. I am not into the competition thing as much as going out and having some fun. It looks like it might be miserable tomorrow with all the wind so the quadcopter will be grounded. If I find anything identifiable I will be happy. See you there hopefully.

I will give those settings a try as a starter. I appreciate the information.
I will bring the arsenal out and failing that I will just shoot video. LOL
Sweet I will give it a go thanks!

CO_T/Huntr I agree on never saying never with the Deus. I was initially a little disappointed with my limited understanding however after running both the hot & cold programs for a while and digging everything I was soon turning up silver in spots that I know I have covered at least 100 times with my AT Pro.

Thanks
Bill
