:clapping:Loving My Deus

I wasn't nearly as convinced at first, but I am now. The Deus is a FANTASTIC machine. I have been doing extensive testing between what the E-Trac sees and what the Deus sees and I am not finding any loss in depth with the Deus. I was planning on having the Deus as my "shallow stuff" machine and the E-Trac as my "deep-seeker" but I have yet to find a single deep target with the E-Trac that the Deus doesn't sound off on loud and clear. The Deus is an absolute pleasure to use, with it's lack of weight and razor sharp pinpointing, this machine truly is everything I could want and more. I am one super satisfied customer. I know some people are reporting lack of depth with this machine, but in my ground here in Minnesota, the Deus is able to hold it's own against my E-Trac. On a side note, I am actually finding more with the Deus than the E-Trac due to its incredible recovery speed. I pulled the Walking Half out of a hole with 2 nails in it. The E-Trac didn't see it but the Deus gave a rock solid, and I mean rock solid 95 ID at 8 inches. Below are a couple pics of my hunt from today. For those of you that are on the fence about the Deus, my opinion is go for it. This machine is absolutely awesome in every way. I am also understanding why XP gave us "only 4 tones," this machine doesn't need any more. It's more about how the signal comes through (hard to explain) not about how high/low the signal is. Coins just have a certain sound to them that tells me they are a coin. Its true that ID's are not as accurate as on the E-Trac (especially for quite a few pennies) but I have found that my ears tell me theres a coin beneath the coil without ever having to look at the ID. This is not to say that the ID's are not good. For most targets, the ID is spot on but it can wander, especially when there are multiple targets in close proximity. I want to thank everyone for their input on the forum as I have learned many tricks, however I also want to warn others, I have found that certain tricks don't work in my ground and certain settings really need to be set for YOUR area. A good GB and setting up non-motion audio each time I go out have been very good to me. Thanks for reading and Happy Hunting -Marc

Thanks Marc for the info and tips. I think its true with just about any detector.....Soil is the key!

I am considering getting a Deus as well.

Nice Finds! What is the ground mineralization reading on your Deus?

Well, I didn't know my ground was as mineralized as it apparently is. My mineralization bar is usually about halfway and sometimes 3/4 to the top.It seems to vary rather greatly while hunting but it is usually between 1/4 and 1/2. Hope this helps. I'll watch it more closely the next few hunts to give you a more solid answer. I don't know if that is what you were asking but my ground balance (pumping) comes out to 85 usually if that was your question.

Marc - Looks like you're doing well. Thanks for the feedback. I love my Deus as well, but need to put in more time to fine tune it to my soil and get my ears used to the tones. Cannot wait until I have the Deus in my head, just like the E-Trac.

I'm sure it will click very soon for you. I have about 60-70 hours on mine now and I get it. This machine is very easy and capable once you understand how to set it up and once you learn to listen to the details within the tones, rather than just the tones themselves. Good targets just have a "cleaner" sound than others. Like I said, I can't describe it, but if you put in a few solid days hunting, I am sure you will understand what I mean. Good luck and let me know how you get along with it. HH -Marc

Marc - I have no doubt that I'll master it sooner then later. I've only been out with it for about 8 hours now. Been real busy at work and my oldest daughter is getting married next month, so time has been short. Question for you about GB. Have you tried setting the GB manually a few points under what the ground mineralisation index reading is telling you or do you use pumping most of time? I've noticed in the few short hunts that I've gotten in, that I've gained some additional depth with the lower GB settings. Of course, you cannot get to crazy with it or you just end up with to much falseing and chirps. I've been able to run mine up to 5 points below the ground mineralisation index reading and still have fairly stable operation. I've also used pumping, which I do every 15 to 30 minutes or thereabouts. Have not tried tracking yet. What's your experience with GB so far?

One other question - Calibration of Threshold (page 21 of the manual). Is that something that is associated with "None Motion" mode only or does it apply to general operation? I've read it several times and still not sure. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the info Marc.

Hi Steve, Here's a video of how to tune the Deus. It applies to non-motion modes. you press pinpoint, then you push through two more modes (top left button) to get to non-motion audio. I have tried the various modes and this one is great. You can also cross-check if a target is falsing iron with the "squealer" as I, and others, call it. If you find a target, switch to non-motion audio (pinpoint) and if it squeals, its non-ferrous, if the audio goes lower, its iron. Simple and works every time. The video below shows you how to set up the squealer mode and shows how its used. Great video. It's really simple and REALLY makes a difference if you do it right. Hope this helps. Feel free to let me know if you have any further questions. HH -Marc

Perfect Marc, thanks. Now it makes sense. Just like TTF on the E-Trac. That looks like something you could hunt with in addition to the pinpointing/cross checking advantages. Just have to drop the volume on the headphones a bit to keep from blowing my eardrums out. My wife says that I'm going deaf and listening to that all day would definitely speed up the process.

Hi Steve, I suppose the squealer mode is somewhat like TTF. It works very differently from TTF however. One big mistake that many Deus users make is increasing their sweep speed due to the increased recovery speed. I have found that the Deus is no different from other detectors, you still have to sweep at a decently slow speed to get good results. I made the same mistake in the first 20 hours. I started sweeping too quickly (due to the light weight/false expectations of the machine). I have found that a good 2 second sweep speed works best with the Deus. It is not a magical device, you still need to take it slow to get the most out of it. Once I learned to slow down my sweep speed, my good finds increased tremendously. I found this is due to the fact that the Deus recovers so quickly that if you sweep too quickly, you will miss good audio responses as the Deus recovers/resets so quickly. This is a double-edged sword as you will miss good targets quickly due to the quick recovery time. Take it slow to begin with. Since you have an E-Trac, you know all about low and slow. Apply this to the Deus to begin with and increase speed as is suitable to your hunting ground/conditions.

Great report. What stood out to me was that the E-Trac didn't hit on that 8" coin. I can't say I'm surprised, even though I have an E-Trac!

Please keep the reports and comparisons coming. I'm not so much into nail tests per say but when you compare signals to actual targets, I'm all EARS.

Hey Marc, does this work the same way in V3.2? I was messing around with it the other day and could only get the tune for threshold to go to 30 max. I noticed in the video he went 30+.
Do you have any experience using this in V3.2?

Marc are you running an old version? why do you only have 4 tones?

Jim

Hi Jim, did you notice the date of Marc's post? I think at this time the only version available was V-2.0 and it only has 4 tones.
