Clash of the Titans

Nauti

Well-known member
Coming soon to a forum near you...Two Titans battle for supremecy.....Sovereign Gt v Nautilus DMC2B.

Seriously though,i thought i'd do a comparison between the GT and the Nauti just for a bit of fun.All the tests will be "in ground" tests and will compare depths in clean and mineralised soil and also in heavily iron infested areas. All the coins used in the tests will be American currency, dimes, cents, quarters etc.
Thought it would be interesting to compare two powerhouses, one with the latest technology and one whose technology is over twenty years old.Watch this space.
Regards,Neil.

In clean low mineralized ground the Nautilus might have the edge. In the more mineralized ground the GT will outdo the Nautilus. Also, don't forget that the GT's BBS technology is not new and almost as old as Nautilus.

That should be cool to see. I've heard some say those things are deeper than any machine they've ever used so long as the ground doesn't have any kind of minerals. Try to match coil sizes, or at least use what both come with "stock".

As far as BBS technology being 20 years old it's still light years ahead of anything from anybody else out there, and some feel (including me) is deeper/smoother than machines using the "newer" FBS technology. Either way, FBS and BBS machines are like advanced alien technology compared to what some others are trying to pass as "state of the art" detectors these days.

I don't know if it's true (?) but I heard years ago that Whites had developed at least some of the technology behind BBS but couldn't get it to work, selling the patent off to Minelab. If that's true (?) I bet the guy who made that decision get's to wear the dunce hat in the office everyday. I've never seen any solid info on this but have heard people make reference to it. Urban legend or fact somebody?

I really enjoyed the other two threads done recently on the comparisons of the GT to the Etrac, 75LTD, SE, & I think one or two others. The heavy hitters going head to head is always something I like to read other's views on. None of this PC cr*p about there being no winners or losers like they are trying to teach in schools these days. Witness my new signature file. :poke: Competition is what made this country great, not living on some kind of Barney kid's TV show. :smoke:

Somebody in another forum keeps hyping the fact that certain detectors are American made. I'm all for buying American and do so whenever I can. Witness my new truck. The perception that foreign cars are more reliable is for the most part not true, or at least not worth the extra money they cost and the higher repair/parts costs as well compared American made. On the other hand, if US car companies were still making the duds they did in the 1980's I'd own a foreign vehicle. Same deal with detectors. Seems like many companies are still "stuck in the 80's" compared to Minelabs.

Good post CH.I will be using 10" coils on both machines to keep it all fair.I know BBS technology is'nt new in age terms but it is the "newer" technology compared with the usual single frequency machines and that is sort of what i meant.I own and love both machines so the testing will be un-biased.......i do not care which comes out on top because i use and like them both.I do use the sov now for most of my hunting but in no way will this affect the outcome.

Good hunting everybody,Neil.

I own nautilus 2 b haven't found anything deeper shines in the relic world. They are heavy and have a longer learning curve than other detectors, the 2b can be coil tuned , then ground balanced , It not only gives you a signal but also a discription of the size of the object your huntig with stero head phones. not good around wet sand but can be used. I live net to the ocean now. PS just began learning abt my sovereign

Coins are in the test bed......just got to wait a while for the ground to settle.

Great, looking forward to it! On the subject of other machines I've been intrigued by the T2 in the past until I read it didn't really do as well as the GT on depth, at least at some sites. Then I see they've got a new G2 coming out and that machine looked promising, but I see that it's a high frequency (19khz?) detector, which means great for gold but not for max depth on coins or in high minerals. I'd love to see them make say a 3 to 6khz unit with perhaps a 12" DD coil. Those machines look nice and are light. Would make a great 2nd unit. Also see that they made a T2 LTD just like the F75 LTD. Never knew that, and if logic follows the T2 LTD should be even deeper than the F75 LTD from what I gather. Anybody have that one and any opinions on it compared to your GT? What's the frequency of the T2 anyway.
