Class ring

Hi all...
I have a question.
I found a class ring that has a name on the inside.
I want to try to return it, but it has been long enough that this person most likely has married and maybe re-married and no longer has their maiden name.
I've tried the local jewelry and pawn shops to see if anyone is looking for this ring.
Now I just tried the school and they want me to send it to them......
well... the question is .
How do you get the return in person for the picture and the gratification of the return???
To me it just doesn't feel right to send it to them and have them drop it in a box and hope that someone comes to a class reunion and asks for their ring.

A little help with this from those with returns.
I just want to do what is right.
I need all the help I can get with my Carma.

I WOULDNT DROP IT OFF. No way ! The #1 source of locating long lost people is Facebook......... Run the name. Also Google it. You can also possibly go down to the local library and hopefully get the school yearbook from that year. Then hopefully try contacting some of her classmates via Facebook ... maybe they can help point you to the owner. Trust me the work is worth the reward of returning it..... Good luck. CCH

facebook or classmates.com if you don't find the person you can find someone that knows them or knows how to contact them. also do a people search at white pages.com for the last name in the area of the school. more than likely there is family in the area with the same last name father uncle cousin. just start making phone calls. facebook will alow you to search by grduation year

Do NOT give it to the school. Like others said, try to google the name. Facebook, even the local library and get a year book. If it's a female and has gotten married since, contact another classmate (class president) and see if they have records of her for when they have class reunions. You'll find them. So far I have managed to return several class rings by giving the school info about the ring and my contact number.

I would never hand the ring over to anyone, but the owner or a family member.

I lost a university ring by using a third party who said they returned it, but never produced any confirmation info.

Years ago I returned a silver ID bracelet in poor shape I found in the water in Connecticut to a man living in California.

His name was very distinctive and I searched phone books until I located a family member who gave me his mailing address.

I sent it to him and received a nice letter thanking me for the wonderful surprise which stirred many fine memorues from his teen years.

Along with the letter came a twenty dollar bill to pay for my trouble,

PS I live close to a popular beach area and have earned a reputation for being the go to guy when treasures get lost. As of this moment I have recovered and returned thirty eight rings. Most returned items have resulted in no reward as I haven't asked for one, but have accepted a bottle of wine or token cash donation if offered.

I am now asking for a small donation toward the cost of batterys if I am able to recover an item, which sometimes results in pleasant surprises.

No, I'm not sending it to the school.
The lady didn't give me the "warm and fuzzy" feeling that would make a person feel like they would even try to return it.
More like they would put it in a box and if someone came looking.....
I'll keep trying with phone calls and the internet.
I know someone out there knows this person.

I've posted on class ring finders and on the school alumni lost ring site.
We'll see if that produces and I'm still looking for some relatives...
