Classic Deus target signal today

CT Todd

Well-known member
I had one of those classic Deus signals today. Small target, nice sound, 00 TID, dig it up and a nice pewter button. It was about 7-9" down at a cellar hole site through an inch of snow.
I was running the Gary's Hot program at 12 instead of 18. It ran very smooth.

What is Gary's hot program if you don't mind telling

CT Todd, great find and good info on the target ID!

From Gary's website (do a google search for "Gary's Hot Program"):

Hot
Load up the Deus fast program....Change
Discrimination.....0, or 1 to eliminate ground noise
Tones....Full tones
Iron Vol.....0
Audio response....3-4
Here we have some big changes, at first don't be afraid to use a discrimination 6 or lower until you get used to the audio feedback.

Thanks

Had a similar occurance today:

I was hunting today with iron vol on 3 trying to find a place where a structure used to stand. Discovered a spot about 20x20 ft with lots of iron and nails. Deus settings: 92 sens, 12khz, TX2, disc 8.1, reactivity 3 silencer 0, 3 tone, manual GB.
I get this signal somewhat of a high tone and very repetitive but seemed choppy on the edges. Looking at the control head while sweeping I noticed a sliver of the right side of horseshoe would show only on some sweeps. Screen showed 01 VDI on every single sweep. So I'm thinking iron, but the tone just sounded a bit too good. Pinpoint didn't reflect big iron but a target smaller but larger than say a coin, So I dug and it was a handle of some sorts made out of a green looking metal and was buried around 6 inches deep. After digging I swept with coil and the object read 54 VDI. I even scanned the hole with pinpointer and didn't notice any iron and went back into pinppoint and swept hole and didn't hear any signal.

The TID#s can and will fool you. Tone, tone Tone

Audio is definitely king with Deus!!!

Audio is the best indicator of what to dig with the Deus. I hunted a trashy but not real bad school yard where I dug deep silver and some relics last hunt there with a CTX. Ended up playing with settings on the Deus and did not pay attention to the VDI until I figured out what I thought it was by tone alone. After trying many settings that I cannot remember, I found that Manual GB 85, Sens 90, TRX 3, disc 8, Freq 7.8, Iron 1, Reactivity, 3, Silencer -1 and notch out everything to 70 with notch 2, 99-99 got me 6-8" very "dig me" solid tone all the way around coin targets but no silver or wheats. Dug a different looking 1990's 10 Peso quarter size coin where center is a different alloy about the size of a dime at 4". Trash was always scratchy/choppy at the end and I properly called trash most of the time. I am liking this machine and plan on hitting the school again in the future. I guess an old goat like me can learn something new! LOL! Also these multi hour non stop hunts hurt just as much with the Deus as the brick like CTX. What's up with that?

I don't know. Are you diggin more holes with deus vs the brick? All I can say is when I swing the "brick" for a while and proceed to deus it's very noticeable.

I was making a bad joke about the weight difference and my age! I just get tired after 3-4 hours of non stop up and down digging. I love the compact light weight of the Deus....main reason I got it!

I dig about the same amount of holes with both Deus and CTX.. Jury is still out which one I like best but for now, I believe the CTX wins for deep silver accurate VDI's. I have hundreds of hours on the CTX and maybe 40 on the Deus. Both have their place and I'll be keeping both into the foreseeable future,
