Cleaning Coins?

I took the X-Terra 70 out on it's maiden voyage today and she did great. I brought back 76 clad coins, misc trinkets, etc.. I was very happy with her performance. I would like to hear the various ways that you guy's clean your coins. I have been saving them up for awhile from my other detectors and now I need to clean them up. Any ideas would be great. Thanks again.

There are several ways to clean coins electrolysis not recommened some coins turn tumbling with small aquarium gravel and a little water and a drop or two of dish soap check frequenlyand just plain scrubing with soda and soft toothbrush. Howard

well, I wash them in hot soapy water, then dry them if they are worth keeping, and spend the modern ones after giving them a wipe or use them in car parking ticket machines like they are!!!! they dont look flash the silver ones come up good.

I dont keep anything really most of my stuff get trashed except for predecimal coins and modern good coin and interesting artefacts/relics. so all the 1 and two cents , 5 10 20 50 cents get thrown out along with any bits I bring home which dont interest me!!!! I keep getting told to keep all the scrap brass lead etc, but I dont have anywhere to store it and it is just more junk to collect. so it gets binned before I get home!!! I do however keep an example of every different overseas coin I find. 2 us cents so far a 1916 and a 1972d.......

all my clad I throw them in the tumbler with corn cobb media and run them for a couple of hours and they look pretty good my old coins i just run under water and scrub with a tooth brush.

If you have old pre-clad coins of numistic value you may ruin this value by over cleaning and damaging them, so be careful.

"First try a distilled water soak and a soft makeup brush.. After that (if needed) hot hydrogen peroxide (heat up in the microwave or a coffeemaker hot plate and place coin in, check every 1/2 hour and change the solution when it stops fizzing, remove crud with a soft brush and running water... Or make instant potatoes and place the coin into them.. Check every half hour and as with the rest clean with a soft brush and running water.. After cleaning a soak in distilled water for a day and when dried soak in a preservative like coin wax,beeswax or Vaseline.. Just go slow and always keep a eye on the progress,as always, to little is better than to much.. I hope this helps..."

If it is just clad I use my tumbler. If is anything of value at all just some hot soapy water, maybe a soft tootbrush. Lots of ways to clean a coin and ruin it, Beale.
