Coil Design

Hello All!
Has there been any thought given to "Smart Coils"?
Kinda like the "USB" format for computers. Plug in a coil, and the detector recognizes the coil, and sets parameters based on coil size, capacitance and other items.
Or another idea:
A Power booster coil, with a built in output booster, or maybe a signal amplifier.
I know we want a light coil, maybe something inline?

Yes, exist already.... The new detector projects at www.pulsdetektor.de (Germany) have all this features. Ask "Pulsi" (inventor & developer) of the detectors. Check it out.

You can try this site...the Alta Vista translation engine. They are not perfect translations but you can at least get a general idea about what is being said.

Remember to select "German To English" and then click Translate
Hope that helps.

You need to express just what your trying to accomplish with these request. More depth, more sensitivity, and for what items ???
This is a PI forum, and you certainly can get PI information here. If it

I've been looking at what I would call "Active Transducers" for a while - Eric, I believe, has used coils with built-in pre-amps etc. in commercial designs...
One BIG plus that I can see is the loss of the cable capacitance, allowing a far faster settling time for the pre-amp. In addition, I use a balanced line driver to get the signal to the main electronics to effectively eliminate common-mode interference, overall noise, EMI, sensitivity to handling/movement etc. Also, the coax goes to replaced by fairly bog-standard twisted pair + power & signal lines - a far less critical cable & connectors...
By careful control of timing, I hope to have all the drive electronics together with the pre-amp in my coils - the actual electronics is not complex, but keeping it neat is tricky as I am also using some manufacturer's prototype high speed current sensors to automatically calibrate normal coils in the same setup - I will elaborate more if required... (this is the bit I really like ATM).
I have a trial system for this on the bench, but no results at the moment - I remain to be convinced that there is any advantage... too many ideas/projects on the go, and a real-world biggie (rebuilding our house and doubling its size!) are taking too much time...

Thanks, Mr. Bill!
I am interested in the ideas discussed on tnis forum, regardless of which PI detector they apply to. One of the reasons is new ideas beget ....new ideas. I was just throwing out a new (to me) idea.
Not a request, just idea.
